Staff link for major match

I've done this before, but I can't remember how I did it, Can someone please point me in the right direction to set up the staff pre registration link so that my staff bypass payment and can sign up early?

Create the match and then create the preregistration codes using the management menu:

What is the purpose of creating a "code" to go along with the link?  They don't work, I always have to email the staff link.

 The old FAQ was much better to figure out questions.

So if you create a code called  STAFF,  can staff enter that code to register?   That has never worked for me, they can only bypass the pay wall  - if I email them a direct link.
