Recommend me a new powder-- 9 minor

Recommended Posts

I have been loading major using AutoComp.
I am now shooting carry optics and running minor and using AC as I had a bunch of it. Now its almost out and was looking to see what powder could replace this.

If I can use less powder on my loads, thats perfect, as long as it feels the same.

Sport Pistol.  Works great.  Less powder for same HF/velocity as W231.   Burns cleaner than W231 too.

Almost anything is better for 9 Minor than WAC.

The best is supposed to be N320 - I've never used it since

I have a good supply of WW231 that I've used for 9mm and

.45 ACP forever.

I’ve used titegroup and sport pistol, I prefer sport pistol now. It meters very well and seems to be cleaner and not burn as hot as titegroup.

I've been using Accurate No. 2 for the coated 147's and Sport Pistol for the 124's. Both meter well and seem to be reasonably clean.

I use N320 with a BB 147gr FP. I also have used Titegroup in the past with a variety of bullets.

Hello: Try some Clean Shot. It is cheap and is as they say clean. I have used alot of Tite Group, N320, AA No2 and 231/HP38 as well as some others. I am running 3.9-4.0 grains Clean Shot with 124-125's that gives me 131-134PF. Thanks, Eric

Well you asked a question to which there are about 50 different right answers. The fact that so many different choices work well should tell you something.

look at a burn rate chart  all of these are in roughly the same area, anything from Unique or faster would be fine,,, some are cheaper, some are cleaner, all will get you through a match and not amount to diddly in difference on the score sheet.

Sport Pistol is like N320, which about a bazillion people use for 9mm and 40.  It burn clean and cool, costs way less and isn't so fast you risk a caboom with light bullets.  American Select, Solo 1000 and e3 work well also.  e3 will require lower charge weights than the other three.  I have very little AS left.  I'm hording my remaining Solo 1000 for 45ACP major.

Until recently, I used e3 for all things minor, including my 45 bullseye load.  I started using the SP for 9mm minor in my compensated 1911 steel challenge gun.  It make just enough gas to work the poppels (but not the comp) and it shoots soft and flat.  I like it, especially with the coated bullets I'm required to use at one range.

4gns of Universal with a coated 122gn truncated cone lead boolit. Loaded to 1.080" it runs 130pf in my XDM 5.25.

YMMV

Used to use W231 (hate the way WST smells), now I use E3. Less smoke, a bit cleaner and soooooft.

I've been using Titegroup for years.  Like many have said, Sport Pistol is the new hotness.  I wish I could find some locally.
