mchapman
I would like to pique your interest about something Scott has been thinking of doing, coupled with the all steel stage that many of you have shot or seen or heard about. we set up here at MESQUITE MAYHEM SHOOTERS SOCIETY for some of our bigger matches. This will have a fixed MAX time allowed to complete the stage. It will consist of 4 arrays with 9 pieces of steel in each array plus a bonus array. You are NOT required to shoot the bonus, but I think most want to give it a try. These will be shot 1st array freestyle, 2nd array right hand, 3rd array freestyle, and 4th array left hand. Then you try the bonus. The bonus array will have 4 knock off steel worth -5 sec. each and then THE "EVIL" SPINNER that you have to make one complete revolution to earn -40 sec. So if you complete the bonus it will give you a -60 seconds off of your stage time. Now the new part; If anyone or multiple people happen to zero the stage the fastest time would get $500 cash. If nobody zeros the stage the fastest time on the stage, [the stage winner] would get $250 cash. Then for the rest of us mortals, if we have 120 shooters we would go half way down the list to #60 and they get $125 cash and to all of the people that didn't finish, a random draw for $50 cash. So far the best time for the stage has been I think 3 or 4 seconds. Edited October 1, 2019 by mchapman
mchapman
Incase some don't know what I am talking about, here is a short clip of one of the JUNIOR SHOOTERS at the match getting the job done well.

jhgtyre
The concept is really similar to the all steel stage we've run at the Arizona State match for a few years and, from what I could tell while running the stage, most seemed to enjoy it. With ICORE being straight time I'm not sure you could call a target that nets you -40 seconds a "bonus target". Now if we did stage points... well that's a gripe for another thread. Either way I've shot a version of that stage (if not that exact stage) at your match and it was fun.

MikeyScuba
Is this for the NRA-D1 targets time plus scoring match? It's ICORE in all but name, for what I understand to be political reasons only....

UFO
I like the idea, as long as the same ammo is used all the way across. I was there a few years ago when at the spinner, suddenly a few shooters had magnum loads.

Besides, I think the guys with magnum loads didn't do that great anyway cause of the recoil
mchapman
I would hope that would be the case, but as we all know "that" guy with an assortment of ammo in their bag ranging from mouse farts to elephant loads. The thing that I can tell you is that most any gun or ammo that meets min power factor will spin it. For example fiocci 158 38 spcl. factory ammo will spin it as will 150 syntax federal 9mm. My 150 gr, short colts will do it if I do my part and have correct timing and shot placement. Now if you feel the need to slip in some Magnums, you are just adding to your problems in my opinion, you have most likely been shooting 38 spcl or short colts and your cylinder more than likely isn't clean enough to get smooth insertion or extractions, coupled with the fact you are conditioned to the lighter recoil of what you have been shooting and all of a sudden major recoil with magnums that you are not used to handling and that is not taking into account the differences in poi and poa. To me it's just not worth it. Just dance with what you brought and who knows, you may just be the Belle of the ball.LOL
