Chris777
Anyone having problems with their Urban Grey finish on their CZ Shadow 2? Mine is starting to flake off in some areas and has started to develop what looks like little bubbles on the lower dust cover/frame rail. It is also beginning to flake off on the top of the frame where the slide sides. Its looks to be just cosmetic, but not sure if the polycoat is their to keep the frame from rusting. The S2 started to have some wear marks showing the black coating under the polycoat up by the muzzle from the holster but is has continued to get worse. Think some of the standard gun cleaning stuff (Hoppes, CLP, etc.) may be slightly accelerating the problem, but I don't think they are the cause. I have heard CZ polycoat is not the strongest finish, but my $400 plastic guns (S&W, Glock) have taken 100x the use/abuse of my S2 and their finishes look just fine. Anyone ever contacted CZ about this and filed a warranty claim or figured out some other fix? Thinking if CZ does not come up with a fix, I will eventually want to get it refinished with something a bit better. EarlKeese
The S2 is nitrided under the polycoat, so no worry about rust. The urban gray polycoat is known to be less durable than the black. I would call CZ-USA, but you probably won't like the warranty turn around(5-6 weeks).
See_Archie_Shoot
That is crazy. It looks like it just didn’t bond correctly. I have the black version. No coating issues to date.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
adamge
Never seen one like that. I have probably 15-20k rounds through my urban grey S2, finish is holding up well. I would say manufacturer defect, should be warranty.
zen_grasshopper
I had one that was pretty bad and the serial was within 20 of yours, but yours looks way worse. I didn’t care about mine, just kept shooting it, it was replaced under warranty for a different reason. I am sure they would warranty that just call or use the form the website. Hansb57
It almost looks like some sort of chemical reaction. Why is the red paint safety indicator almost gone?
George16
Were you using brake parts cleaner to clean it? Reason I ask is because of the red paint safety indicator that’s pretty much gone.
Chris777
I contacted CZ USA and they sent me a warranty shipping return. Going to send it in and see what they say/can do. Probably will be with out it for 6+ weeks unfortunately. Looks like i need to buy another gun while this one is out getting fixed.... Will keep everyone posted on the outcome. abb1
I have a CZ Shadow Canadian with a silver polycoat finish, that has some wear, but it is NOTHING like that after years of use. I would say that it is definitely a warranty issue and you should have no problems with your claim.
Chris777
CZ contacted me and said they will need to send me a new S2. 4-6 more weeks of waiting, but CZ has been good about communicating the status of the warranty claim, so all in all, no complaints on how it is being resolved. exoto
I've noticed this topic for a while and just decide to join the discussion. Mine also has the same issue just not as bad. I took GREAT care of this pistol but paint just keep flaking off from the muzzle area, rail and on the top of the rail area of the slide. I sent this back to czusa for 3 weeks and have not heard anything back from them. I 'm from NJ and it's difficult to deal with pistol purchase. I hope they don't just send a new one. also, the serial number is within digit away from the pistol of zen_grasshopper i bet the frame crack is the reason for warranty replacement? I called CZUSA before sending the pistol, and they say they should be able to fix it by removing the original coating and re-coat.
Chris777
Sorry for the long delay.. CZ just said they would replace the entire gun. Never mentioned recoating.. that would have been fine by me if they offered it.

However, my story is a lot more painful. my S2 was sent back in the early 2020 becasue of the frame crack..about 1 month later, they fixed it and sent it back to me, then the coating issue had me sent it back again in August 2020. when they agreed to replace it a month later, unfortunately, as I live in NJ, it took another 4 months for me to get the pistol permit. Just today, I finished all the paperwork at my FFL, still another 3-4 days for the State to process NICS. Of the entire year of 2020, S2 is not in my hand more than half of the time. smh Edited February 16, 2021 by exoto
