chetc
i am shooting at 20yds for getting my best loads off of a rest, i have 2 rest. one is a v formed pc of wood , i used 1/8" thk felt and covered it with leather, the other is a leather sandbag i rest the gun on, from experienced shooters. would one be preferred over the other. chet
GOF
I prefer a large sandbag, actually a rifle long bag. It allows the sights to be steadied on the target without wobble, but doesn't interfere with the natural recoil impulse that also effects the bullet impact point. I've never really liked the V-notch rests because they induce different pressures on the gun than you will experience when firing from a freestyle grip. PatJones
I've never had good luck shooting handguns from a rest. It always seems to effect elevation. I always shoot groups and sight in offhand.

Dwbsig
I’ve used a leather bag but I seem to have more consistent results with a mtm pistol rest.
11MM
I would say which ever one produces the best accuracy and is repeatable.
Keepkool
I use a Cadwell pistol rest to sight in my pistols. the gun licks up nicely and makes for easy adjustment.
fastluck13
For a rifle, I use whatever is around (mostly my range bag) but for pistol, I go freestyle. I SUCK with a rest. That and I figure I will be shooting freestyle anyway so why not sight into the same POA.
