Nice. I have been percolating an idea to build something like the Saburo I have but with a sort of tanto blade and a Axis style lock.

The tanto is a Darrel Ralph Krait, The clip point push dagger convertible is Saburo X5 Green Beret. Saburo knives were sold through MAXAM years ago.

How solid is the lockup in each position? Feels safe enough to actually use?

With the lock-back design it feels fairly safe. I've neve had it let go. but I'm planning on using an Axis lock style system with the toggle in front of the pivot.

And now with the finished handle! I can’t honestly think of anything to say beyond that it looks absolutely perfect. In particular the little extra detail of the carbon fiber piece where the blade stems out from the handle, it’s just beautiful. You can also see how this side of the blade has the opposite edge ground. And a somewhat blurry screenshot from the video that shows how the two edges come together to form the point:

I’m absolutely ecstatic!

A few of my 150 year old long knives all custom made at home. And a couple of my 100 year old folders.  I lot of interesting things were going on at the Texas -Mexico boarder about 1870 when these were being carried daily

Those jawbone knives always looked really neat to me but at the same time really uncomfortable to hold

Not this one it's very comfortable to hold maybe it's just that I have big hands, I don't know. but, it fits my hand perfect also teeth are smooth almost like finger grooves. lol

Very cool!

Another video featuring the live blade and the accompanying duplicate trainer (the first training blade featured is not mine):
