Hnemes
Hello, I’m thinking about getting into pcc but I don’t want to buy a dedicated rifle due to finances. While I know this sport cost money (which I’m fine with spending) I can’t justify buying a dedicated rifle until I know I like it. I saw the stern defense upper and mag block and it had good reviews from what I can find. Does anyone run a setup like this? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Link to comment
Chrisyoung
I've look at them but the cost of a stern defense set up is all most as much as a complete low end rifle. Me personally I'd rather buy a complete PSA ar9 than convert one of my ar's that way if I decide that pcc is not for me a complete rifle is a easyer sale. Link to comment
tha1000
I’ve been wondering about this as well. I have one set up for colt mags with a Hahn block. My upper should work with either, but haven’t seen any legit talk on the stern magwell adapter. I’m definitely interested. Link to comment
427Cobra
I have been looking hard at a Stern mag adapter, and a Foxtrot Mike 8.5 upper for my SBR, for the Stern to work with the FM bolt carrier .035 has to be taken off the carrier, Stern does this service for $7.50 plus shipping both ways, what the turn time is IDK. Good to know. I have a FM 10.5 upper on my sbr. Link to comment
MoRivera
I run the mag well adapter and it has been very reliable, and last round bolt hold open always works. You'd do have two clean and lube it every now and then otherwise the soot buildup could make the mag catch get sticky. Link to comment

Have you had to modify your bolt in any way in order for it to work with fire control?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Link to comment
MoRivera
No mods needed. Uppers have ranged from mil spec to billet. The BCG's I have work fine with a variety of triggers and uppers. Link to comment
grsdoug
Just received a Stern conversion with their 8.5 inch upper for my SBR lower. Ran 350 rounds of 124 JHP PDs and 4.0 grains Titegroup. Shot as well as my MPX as far as accuracy at 50yds (1 inch groups with Sig Romeo 5). Had one OEM mag not feed the first round, ran fine after that. Handles extremely fast tgt2tgt. Using H3 buffer, locks back perfectly. Going to use it at a local steel match. Impressed so far. Link to comment
tha1000
how big a deal is the unconventional placement of the mag release for any of you that have run it in a match or two?? Link to comment

It's in a good place and is very intuitive as long as you get 'used' to it. Maybe some substantial dry practice doing mag changes. But it works great. Link to comment
Scooter
Took me two matches to get used to the mag release. Link to comment
tha1000
Generally use trigger finger or off hand to work it? Link to comment
tha1000
I’m guessing it also prevents the use of an aftermarket magwell? Link to comment

StealthyBlagga
Another option is a GMMG Guard upper on a regular AR15 lower. Use EndoMag inserts in regular PMAGs. Same manual of arms, mag pouches etc. as for a 5.56 rifle. If you really get into PCC, buy a dedicated lower and use the same upper. Edited July 14, 2019 by StealthyBlagga Link to comment
