Buckmark sticky slide isse

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I set up a Buckmark with a C-more for my boys to shoot steel challenge with. The gun runs reliably with cci mini-mags, but not with standard velocity, at all. That's not the issue though. It has happened a half dozen times now where the boys go to rack the slide and they cant get it to budge. It's like the slide is glued shut and it takes an adult to rack the slide. Then it will run fine.

Is the crud that builds up from shooting sticky? That's my best guess. If that is the case, this must be a common problem with a known solution, correct?

Of course, but this seems to be able to happen when it is 100 rounds fired since a cleaning. I try to shoot it wet, maybe I need to use a thicker oil that stays in place better. It seems weird to need to oil a gun every couple stages, but maybe that's what you do with 22 pistols?

That's what I do with .22's.

I was at  a match few years ago, and a family of three were sharing a single .22 rifle - one

jam after another.   I handed the father a can of oil, and no more jams.    :)

Also, the brand of ammo can make a big difference.  Some feed better than others.

This was my first thought.  Check to see if the issue is when the hammer is down.  If not, did the pistol have the issue before you installed the C-More?

I have three different Buck Marks, and they all run CCI Standard Velocity without any issues.

This. Many 22 autos can be hard to rack with the hammer down. Lube might help but the real solution is to get a slide racker. Tandemkross has them and a whole bunch of other cool stuff for the Buckmark. I have an older Buckmark on which the Tandemkross racker will not fit but I have one on a S&W Victory and it is real nice. (The TK trigger for the Victory is also very nice.)

Thanks guys, I'll get a slide racker and keep her well oiled.  It is weird though that my buckmark wont cycle standard velocity ammo.  The slide doesn't move as easily back and forth as I would expect.  Even when it is perfectly clean and oiled, it feel like metal dragging when I rack the slide. Sort of like if you had two pieces of aluminum oiled and moving against eachother?    Nothing like the glassy smooth feeling of racking one of my CZs. I have no other experience with the Buckmark so I don't know what is normal.  I just figured it was okay as long as it ran the CCI minimags fine.

Not uncommon for 22 semiautos to cylce HV but not SV. SV may not have enough ooomph! to overcome the recoil and hammer springs. You can change springs if the SV is more accurate and that's what you want.

my .02

Getting a slide racker isn't the answer, it is treating the symptom.    If one has to use a racker while running time in steel challenge, then you already have thrown the stage.   This is true for CF or RF.

I don't have any answers to help you with the Buckmark cycling ( I use a sw22 victory ) but getting the gun to run reliably is the right answer.   Sure a racker will make things more comfortable especially for the boy between mag changes, make ready, show clear.

Some guys on my squad said they stopped using oil on their 22s and it helped a ton, as the oil is like glue for all the dirt, carbon and gunk. They use spray dry lube to great success. I forgot what product they recommended. Is this common among 22 shooters and what product should I look at?

For the 10/22 rifle I only lube with Hornady One Shot CLP (NOT THE CASE LUBE!!!!) or WD40 Specialist with Teflon (NOT THE GEL)

https://www.hornady.com/reloading/case-care/lubes-and-cleaners/one-shot-cleaners

https://www.wd40specialist.com/products/dry-lube?specialist=GoogleBrand&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI9MH5p7XE4gIVlONkCh3Y5QjbEAAYASAAEgLJ5fD_BwE

For the Buckmark the WD40 Specialist works OKAY.  I don't use the dry lubes on my Buckmarks, I use a very small amount of light oil like EEZOX or Lucas Light gun oil.

https://www.eezox.com/shop/ultimate-gun-care-4oz-can

https://lucasoil.com/products/out-door-line/gun-oil

I put the oil into precision needle oiler bottles and apply 4 drops to the slide.  With the slide locked back, put one drop at the front corner of the slide, each side and then at the back put one drop in the corner at the point the slide meets the rear frame post, each side and that's it.  Leave everything else dry.
