Limited or Carry Optics for Glock?

I carry a Glock at work so I like to keep on the same type of pistol thus the thread placement.

What i I do know is I’m totally tired of shooting “Production”. Just seems everyone where I shoot has gone to limited, PCC, even Carry Optics is catching up. So putting around with my little ten shots of minor feels like I’m shooting revolver I’ll even admit even though it “does not exist” where I fall on “HOA chart” sorta means something to me..my problem I know..,

I can set up a 35 for limited or a 17 for carry optics without that much price difference with what I’ve got tucked away, and I do reload. Shooting carry optics is attractive, “it is the future” and my eyes are  still ok, but not going to be getting better (coming up on fifty). Limited-hey, major scoring and I do sort of still like iron sights...

Any thoughts on where you would go in this spot?

Thanks!

I recently sold my STI Limited gun and am concentrating on CO. I had been finding it difficult to use iron sights and so I had my Glock 34 milled for a Leupold DPP. I can’t tell you how much fun I’m having being able to hit steel easily again! If you’re over 50, I’d switch to CO.

Tough call.  I shoot a plastic gun, but not a glock, and recently went through this same deal.  I ended up going limited, but did try CO as well.  If you toss a weight and magwelll on your glock i don't think you give much if any to the steel guns.  That said, you can always put a plate and a dot on your 17 and if you don't like CO you can get %80 of your money back real easy.  You can also put a WTB in the classifieds and probably pick up the parts for either at a discount.   I guess if you have no preference go with the biggest of the two in your area, if you do have a preference go with it.  Hard to go wrong either way.

So you want to compete with a gun similar to what you carry; do you have a red dot on your carry gun? ;)

Now don’t be doing that to me because I thought of that too, hey maybe someday they will approve them  😉 (I am by the way in far greater danger of carpal tunnel from deleting emails in my current position than of al-queda attacking me)

seriously though, same trigger (yeah I run stock) and a lifetime supply of G17 and G22 mags and parts is part of it too. I’m trying to be semi practical here darn it!

G17 for CO.

You have mags and parts. Easy to get parts if needed. Plus you be shooting Minor. I currently have a G17 for Open and one day it will turn into a CO with a Cmore RTS2. I'm old and yes, the eyes have lost out over the years and the dot is a plus.

You're already used to shoot minor and dealing with the scoring

So you won't have to deal with being used to thinking Alpha Charlie is a good target.

CO is fun fast paced as you want to make it.

IF I've been shooting open I tend to shoot it like an open gun "problem" with to many C's and some D's

But when I've been shooting it regularly I tend to pay attention to the dot being in the middle instead of on the brown.

Probably why I'm an old A shooter and not an old M shooter!!!

Dove tail mount and an optic gets you in for less than 300.00 then if you like it spend a little more for slide milling etc.

I'm in for CO cause the front sight is getting harder to pick up

Good fortune

I shot Limited for a long time with a G35, then switched to a 16-40. I’ve been playing with a g17 in CO for the last year and a half and really like it.

For me, the dot is a lot of fun on steel, stage planning is basically the same as Limited, and I like the fact that you really have to make your shots count shooting Minor. I know the game is different for everyone, but that’s where I’m at now.

But that’s what he’s asking for, and is all you get on Internet forums, 😂

My advice to the OP would be to find the best shooter at his local matches and ask that person. Ask to shoot/borrow guns and try them out.

He's gonna get nothing but opinions from mostly lower class skill level shooters here that know very little about shooting.

IDK if i am am a high enough class shooter to comment, but even if he asks the local GM, wouldn't he still just be getting that guys opinion?  I for sure agree with try both guns out if possible though.  In the end the OP needs to do what he wants not what any of us or the local gm wants.  My local GM would say shoot open, cause everything else sucks, where do you fall on that one? :roflol:

I wasn't trying to say someone has to be a certain level before they can comment.

Most likely get better input from asking someone that's pretty good vs asking for random opinions on a gun forum.

Also, I'd agree that open is the most fun!

The other thing I'd mention is, listen and take the advice. Instead of dismissing it because it wasn't what you want to hear.

Screw this part haha, i really think an open plastic gun and socialism will work this time.

But yeah you are pretty much correct, along with my original comment 🙂

I edited my post to remove that.

Wanted to make my point more simple.

I'd also add that I feel this way because I've asked questions just like this one. Sometimes you get good info. Sometimes you don't.

I've also given options/input that wasn't what I'd consider to be good in hindsight.

Sometimes you gotta ask certian things cause you don't know where to start or know anyone to ask.

I had a question about how the Gen 5 Glocks are compared to previous generations. I didn't start a thread. I went specifically to a solid shooter that shoots them. Not has seen one or shot one but someone who is shooting them..

Then, I had a question about if the Gen 5 has the window cut out. That was something anyone who's seen one could answer. So I started a thread.

Now, I'm sure I'll end up commenting on.future topics with opinions. Might even start some. But just saying, OP might get better info form seeking out someone who's really good in person and actually trying things out.
