RAINY0DAYS
Does anyone have any tips for getting the carbon out of the gas valve assembly on a 1301? I've just been wiping down the piston as part of my cleaning routine. Never really worried about it since I heard you need a special tool only Beretta has to take apart the gas valve. Gun still runs perfectly after 3 years, but the buildup is getting pretty crazy. Sent from my moto x4 using Tapatalk
stumpyv8
It depends where the carbon is building up. Personally, I scrape the excess off with something suitable (screwdriver, pocket knife) & then put the bronze brush in my Dremel & take it back to shiny. No doubt someone will say I'm doing it wrong, but she's got 5 years worth of heavy use & has always cycled with no issues.....
Ming the Merciless
The tools for taking apart the gas cylinder assembly are a 34/36 hook spanner available on fleabay from $10 used to $25 at most online tool stores or $81 on Amazon. https://www.kctoolco.com/gedore-40-34-36-hook-wrench-with-lug-34-36-mm/ I have not been able to locate a commercial spring compressor so I made my own for about $5 in materials, $10 if you don't have any scrap materials laying around. I just copied this one shown on the Practical-Shotgun website. http://www.practical-shotgun.com/beretta-1301-gas-valve http://www.practical-shotgun.com/543 I was having the same problems as the Practical Shotgunner was with my 1301 and 1oz shotshells. https://forums.brianenos.com/topic/254977-how-are-the-1301s-holding-up/?do=findComment&comment=2836585 As far as routine maintenance, I remove the green O-ring from inside the gas cylinder and brush the inside with a Brownells 1100/1187 gas ring brush https://www.brownells.com/gun-cleaning-chemicals/brushes-amp-bore-snakes/specialty-cleaning-brushes/1100-11-87-gas-ring-brush-prod26507.aspx
