Slingblade197
Hey, I'm new to competitive shooting. A good friend from work has been doing it for years and got me interested. I was fortunate to find an intro to practical pistol class in St. Pete that was a huge help and have been hooked since. I'm starting out in Production with a G34. but hope to move to a 2011 soon. Any recommendations or words of advice for a beginner would be appreciated.
3quartertime
Please allow me to welcome this South West Florida FNG to the jungle! Scott is my shooting buddy. He’s inspired me to begin shooting again and I’ve caused him to spend way too much money! Lol. I’ve been away from the sport and forum for a while, but I’m back and hope that I can introduce Scott to the greatest on line archive of practical shooting anywhere, ever. The first recommendation you’ll need is to stop listening to me!!! Lol Enjoy my friend.

Sounds like a great start - the class and a G34 are a great beginning. Welcome aboard, and good luck - just remember the most important three words in practical shooting : safety safety safety BTW, start saving your brass and be thinking of purchasing a reloading set and a PCC. Is it economical to reload 9mm? I've been buying it for an average of $0.18 a round. Wasn't sure it paid off for the 9mm.
PlayFront36
I use a Dillon 550 for 9mm and Im at about $0.12/rd right now. With the price of factory ammo falling it is becoming less and less beneficial to roll your own there.

Can’t really even remember what my costs were back then. I think the best price I’ve seen for .40 is about .26 to .28 for factory or vendor reloads. Sure would like to find a better deal! I've seen some ads for 9mm 115 gr for $ 0.15/round. You can save a bit more than that by reloading - but probably get better ammo (better recoil impulse and more accurate in your gun). Th3Un4givin
Welcome! I’m in Tampa area. I think reloading is always in your best interest if your gonna get serious about this sport. Not only do you get to shoot a lot more for the same money but you can tailor your load to your preferences and then tailor the gun to that load. Blucross
Howdy! FNG here in the Tampa area, looking to dip into Limited Major or Production. I've done a lot of "outlaw" club matches in Orlando but nothing USPSA to date. I took I think the same class at the same place you did in St. Pete which was the launching point for my interest in competing. Best of luck!
