RIA Pro Match Ultra HC or Para Pro Custom

Recommended Posts

Well , I got another RIA 40.  Looking forward to shooting it. Can remember what kydex holster will work since the dust cover is bigger than a Edge.

For a few hundred more you could get a CZ tactical sport or a Tanfoglio limited. Both are superior over the Rock Island.

I have a Rock island Tac ultra hc 40 that I used for a season but looking back I wish I went with a CZ or Tanfo.

I also have a Para p18 Canadian made. The quality is much better than the RI.

I cant remember the last time I shot the Rock Island.

Which do you prefer and why? Cz or tanfo? For limited major?

You can't go wrong with either of them.
CZ tac sport $1,150+-
++
Great trigger out of the box
Longer sight radius ( 5.25" barrel)
--
Fixed rear sight
Small magwell ( needs to be upgraded)
Odd checkering on front and back strap

CZ tactical sport orange $1,600+-
++
Great trigger
5.25" barrel
Adjustable rear sight
Good checkering front and back strap
Drilled for thumb rest ( comes with one)
Better magwell than the tactical sport

--
Only big thing is the price.
For me the frame/grip area feels very cramped compared to the other two but that's a personal thing it might feel perfect for you.

Tanfoglio limited $1,100+-
++
Heavy bull barrel
Decent magwell to start with
Predrilled for thumb support
Great checkering on front and back strap
Adjustable rear sight
--
Shorter sight radius ( 4.75" barrel )
Trigger will need some parts to get decent
Trigger will need $110 in parts and some polishing to get it close to the CZ.

In the end it kind of a wash between them.

If you want something that is ready to go out of the box the CZ tactical sport orange is the best option.

If you like to tinker with your stuff and learn about your gun then the other two are perfect.

It all comes down to what feels best in your hand. I can't help you with that.
What feels best in my hand is the tanfoglio then the CZ tac sport

Mags and accessories are going to be very similar in price.

Ok thanks! Hopefully I can find a few to hold before making a decision. I have shorter fingers. I wear a  men’s medium glove. It’s very snug but a large glove the fingers are 1/8” too long. I have to shift my grip on all full size guns because my thumb is shorter.

I have small hands as well. I wear medium gloves and have room. I shoot Tanfo and love them. I like the CZs alot but Tanfo is wear my heart is. Both are great choices.

One thing to notice on the CZ Shadow 2 the reach for the DA pull is longer than Tanfo S2 or S3. Seem like you're in this for Limited Division so it wont matter to you much because you're getting the Tac Sport.

The tactical sport might be too large for you then.

The Tanfoglio will need thin grips for you or maybe palm swells.

The CZ orange might be perfect for you.

I wear XL gloves so throw out what I said about grip in previous posts.

Yes I am looking for limited major. Which do you recommend for small hands and for limited major? The tac sports are hard to find.

So for small hands how does the tanfo limited and cz orange compare? Just grip wise for smaller hands.

So for small hands how does the tanfo limited and cz orange compare? Just grip wise for smaller hands. Also I’m used to shooting glocks. Is the low profile cz slide an issue when clearing malfunctions? It looks like it’s hard to grab.

I realized you were looking for limited major gun. I'm not sure on how the trigger reach was on the CZ limited guns but I know@je85 can be more informative on that. As far as smaller hands (like me) I like the Tanfo over the original Tac Sport. I have a buddy of mine that has one in 9mm (same frame as the 40) and my Tanfo fits better. I love the Tac Sport Orange very similar to the Tanfo Limited Custom.
@je85 correct me if I'm wrong. He is the one to talk to about CZs.

The tanfoglio limited with thin grips will be good.

The CZ tac sport orange with thin grips will be slightly smaller than the tanfoglio with thin grips.

A tanfoglio with stock wood grips that it comes with will feel terrible for you.

I would highly recommend Lok thin grips.

The slide on a tanfo or cz is not hard to rack vs a glock they are slightly harder then a 1911 but with some dry fire you will not have any issues.

Both the CZ and tanfo have front slide serrations that really help.

The (shadow 2 ) slide is more difficult to grab because they changed the profile but with practice it wont be an issue.

So basically I can’t go wrong with the tanfo limited or the cz orange. That makes it even harder to decide! Does one have more aftermarket support than the other? Like mags, holsters, parts, upgrades? Are they equal there also?

Well the tac sport orange is good oit of the box but if you like tinkering like@je85 said them grab the tanfo. Tanfo needs some trigger work out of the box. Not much hut some. Mags are stupid cheap for tanfoglio. And they offer MBX mags for tanfo if you're into spending butloads of money haha.

Both are equal for parts.

It really comes down to what features are more important to you.

Check out these suppliers to see what options you have.

Tanfoglio parts

Patriot Defense

Henning

Ben Stoeger pro shop

CZ parts

Cajun gun works

CZ-custom

Ben Stoeger pro shop

Armory craft

If its just a project gun why are you worrying about a custom smith ? Buy Kuhnhausens shop manual and a few stones and a jig and do the stuff yourself... Yeh you'll screw some parts up, but in the long run you will learn alot and not be stuck somewhere dependent on a smith to get your gun running

Ok thanks guys! That helped a lot! Hopefully I can find one of each to hold.

This really is the wrong post to be talking about all this CZ and Tanfoglio stuff.

I suggest doing a post over in the CZ or Tanfoglio section.
