randy01
I want to give open a try and was thinking about getting a SPS. Becouse it is based on the 2011 concept parts are easy to come by and becouse it is buitl in the EU I don't have to considder the long waiting periods there are over here for a SVI. shred
You might also want to check out the CZ open guns built on the Tactical Sport frame. I saw several at WSXIV and they looked and felt pretty good. Might be harder to get parts for than an SPS.
Eye Cutter
i'm also in the process of building an sps open pistol. here're some pics in various stages of fitting and assembly SPS Pistol Parts Gunsmithing
Eye Cutter
Test firing without the cmore. Load data: Armscor 124gr fmj 8.2gr VV 3N37. Haven't crono'ed it yet but shoots flat. Since it's almost impossible to get one over here in Asia, I want it to look like one of Dan Bedell's custom pistols below.

Eye Cutter
Dan: I already have your Titanium compensator and the steel slide racker. Ordered it from Chuck at SC. Still waiting for the conversion cone from EGW so I can mount the Ti comp in my barrel.
mcoliver
[Just thinking out loud] Dan, if by any chance you make it to Bali in 2008 and bring one of your beauties, what's the possibility of one guy buying it? And are there any legal ramifications on your end when you go back to the US?
Eye Cutter
dan, what's your recommended load for .38 super using your Ti comp? I'm using a non-ported barrel. We have Vihtavuori powder available. 3n37, 3n38 & n340 Edited September 21, 2005 by Eye Cutter
cybrosh
Hey Randy, There's no going wrong with any of the ST/SV/SP 2011 frames. From my POV, SPS is great. You should also consider other EU brands, like as someone mentioned, CZ. THey have to most amazing competition guns, like the CZ 75 Tactical sports(Called Standard IPSC-former model), and the famed Champion(just throw a mount on it and you're done). I have a couple of friends owning them, and they're awesome. Real fun to shoot. What about Tanfoglio? or Sphinx? These are also CZ based but have their own niche. Peter Stahl? I could go on

The rest assorted match parts. By the way sps is becoming popular here in Philippines in fact one of the RP team members in modified division won champion in recently WS Ecuador using SPS. Also, customer service is very good! They just replaced my magazine tube and grip. Edited September 21, 2005 by achard

Azone41
I know a guy here in the states that has two SPS open guns and they don't seem any different then a ST/SV. The only exception in the mag well already built on the grip looked different.
Eye Cutter
i asked my gunsmith if they can cut the built in magwell bec. i wanted to use an aluminum well. the original polymer grip gets beat up really fast from repeated magazine insertion. anybody knows if the sti grip will interchange and properly fit an sps frame? Rush
yes.. an STI grip will fit on a sps frame... no problems. Shooters who have SPS guns here always end up using STI grips as they are more durable than the SPS grips...

I know sps grip to s*i frame need little modification from the trigger guard portion. Thanks,
