donttreadonme
Go in the woods with an 870 shotgun thing is rusted before I get back home. I love my trusty rusty. Shotty but what can I do to protect it better? That won't break the bank.
GrumpyOne
Duracoat, Cerakoat, or silicone spray and wipe down often.
Ronemus
Wipe it with CLP - a light coat will inhibit rust for a long time.

Either or. It depends how much you want to spend. I use oil.

As do I (on my 870), I have re-finished a shotty with Duracoat and it came out fantastic. It wasn't my gun, and it doesn't get used, so I have no idea about how long it would hold up. Think I paid $20 for the Duracoat kit.
nicholst55
I had mine parkerized, and wipe it down periodically with whatever oil I'm currently using. Works good enough for me. The black oxide that Remington applies at the factory is crap, and should be illegal to apply to firearms!
dogtired
I hate to be the guy, but with good prep and rust inhibiting primer, Krylon camo works pretty well.
wanttolearn
I had CCR refinish my Remington with CPII, it's been perfect, never rusts and i shot it a lot in the rain..... and so easy to clean. I think they're even running a sale just now. Very good people to work with.
