WidowsSon683
You dont smell it while firing due to powder burn. But racking the rifle cold there is a strong hot/burning metal smell from the buffer tube and also from the charging handle. It is a foxtrot mike upper with forward charging handle. After i first noticed it i lubed all surfaces, did i not lube enough? Link to comment
MoRivera
I get that too sometimes. Haven't noticed any issue with performance/shooting. The rear of the receiver is also where shooters often get a lot of gas in the face when shooting suppressed, so it may just be some fumes from standing lubricants or whatever escaping. cvincent
I got that too, when all the parts were new. But I think it has dissipated since running a couple thousand rounds through. Just got a new bolt carrier and the smell has returned. Never got that with my rifle caliber ARs. I thought it was rather odd. Not too concerned about it though. chevrofreak
It is the hard anodized parts wearing in. It goes away. Link to comment
laz2011
This is nothing to worry about. The parts will wear in ,in time and the smell goes away. U can always use a strong smelling oil to mask it . Just shoot it . Good luck. Link to comment
Matt1911
That smell will grow hairs on your chest. Link to comment
