Shooter212
I am set up a rifle range at home that can go out to 400yds. To do his I had to build a little tower it’s pretty hilly. I am wondering if I zero at 200 yds off the tower so I am about 6’ above the target. Is that not going to work well because I am shooting with the bullet drop. If I shoot 200 yds on a level plane will the bullet be way low.
toothandnail
That small difference in elevation won't make a discernible difference in impact location.
EaZeNuTZ33
Non issue. My 200yd spot on the range is more than 6' higher than my targets when zeroing.
Shooter212
Hey thanks guys. Good to know it’s not an issue. It’s nice having long range at home it’s been the weak point of my game for a while now.
yosturm
At 6 feet up over 200 yards that is something like 6 degrees pointing down. Strelok gives me minus 0.1 inches offset for a .223 round at 2758fps. So yes, it is negligible.
Hi-Power Jack
I may be wrong (graduated high school 56 years ago, and have forgotten a few things), but isn't that more like 1 degree (2 yards high at 200 yards) ? And, 36 MOA ? Or, do I have to stay late when school gets out ? Any engineers here ?
yosturm
Correct, I did the math on the wrong angle. So the effect is even less.
