Akkid17
Is it possible to color case harden a stainless grip? I know 1911 and cz frames get done semi-frequently so I was wondering if a stainless steel grip could be case hardened as well. drewbeck
You can case harden stainless steel. I would make sure you understand PT hardening/heat treating process and get an understanding of how the case hardening would change that. I would guess though that the thin portions of the upper trigger guard/frame flat may become embrittled and potentially increase likelihood of cracking. a one piece frame like Cz is just a much different animal than the modular 2011. ive thought about it as well but more from a pure heat treating coloring and clear coating vs case hardening but didn’t dig deep into the details enough to know the negative parts of doing so. either case will wear quick with any significant use/practice from holsters
Akkid17
Whoops just saw I put this in the wrong section. Thought I hit general gunsmithing. Thanks for the response though, I’ve been checking out a lot of turnbull 1911’s and I think it would look awesome on a double stack
