2011 hammer drops with safety on, slide off

I'm trying to troubleshoot an issue with an STI Edge. When the slide is removed, and the safety is engaged, pressing the trigger will drop the hammer. With the slide on it functions as one would expect. Is this a hammer/sear issue or perhaps sear spring? Any advice before I call a gunsmith?

I have two that do the same.it works fine with slide on

I have one that does the same thing.  No problem with the slide on.

With the slide off, the safety will over-rotate.  On some safeties, it is enough to move the surface that blocks the sear out of the way, and let the sear move.

But I would check the tolerances and see just how close it is. If the safety only needs to move a tiny bit further than it does now with the slide on to fail, I would replace it with a properly fitted one for peace of mind.

That is kind of what I was wondering..... none of my other 1911s have this issue.
