9mm PCC under 5 lbs?

Recommended Posts

I started awhile ago with a JRC 17" that weighs in at 7.4 lbs. Being used to heavy AR-15's from 3 gun I didn't think anything of it. But it sucks for PCC for less than 15 yards. So what does it take to get down to 5 lbs, or less?

Mine’s 5 lbs even. Didn’t cost that much. QC10 blem lower, Taccom UL barrel and CF handguard, mission first stock. Wanted it light for kids to handle.

Yea, I know that... But what parts does it take to get there?

Couldn’t really say. My heavier one is an SBR, not really comparable. I prefer the lighter one.  I have not done extensive testing looking for lightest recoil, as I don’t take this division all that seriously. I went back to shooting higher PF production loads to simplify.

checking it now Jack, the lower is about $245, that's fine. $190 for the barrel, yea, I can see a build like that.

six-gun, is that the actual weight on your build as measured? And what's your load for that gun?

Any lighter PCC is a huge advantage in the Division.

Okay, I just weighed it. 5 lbs 2 ounces, no magazine, with Vortex Razor and a laser mounted.

My 5lb 4oz build is
8.5” bsf barrel with taccom break and extension
Brigand arms 7” rail
Jones arms kronos lower
Vseven lightweight upper
Smoke composites stock
2A titanium pins
Vseven titanium safety, bolt release, mag release ext
JP bolt and scs
Vortex razor and crimson trace laser

That being said I shoot my stupid heavy Ruger PC carbine better

I didn’t use anything titanium or expensively lightweight except the Taccom barrel and handguard.

A 5lb gun is unnecessarily light.

Really? What does your PCC weigh in at? Or do you shoot PCC?

Thanks, Mega, that sounds about right, but without the laser, what does it actually weigh in at?

The laser is maybe an 1 OZ 2 tops.  The JP stuff is not the lightest but it is reliable.

I got my JRC down to just under 6lbs before optic. But, it took some work, and careful pick of parts.

Mine weighs in at 6.2lbs.

Yes I shoot PCC.  Do you want to see my GM card to verify?

This one is crazy light.  Cheap plastic lower with taccom barrel.  Different optic and some high dollar light parts it could be 2-3 ounces lighter.   The PCC I shoot the most is close to 6lbs and just shoots better

What is the 8.5" BSF barrel you have listed above?

I'd like a shorter barrel, but not necessarily a 5 inch pistol barrel...  Is that an 8.5" barrel that Taccom welded an extension tube to?  Something like the Taccom UL barrel?

All this talk about weight got me curious so I pulled mine out and put it on the scale. Comes in at 6lbs & 9ozs. Wasn't really thinking about super light weight when I put it together as it's built from mostly PA pieces. It does have a 10" barrel with the Tacom break & tube on it, plus I used an Odin Zulu stock which seems fairly light. The majority of the weight seems to be in the barrel, lower and the bolt, so looking into lighter versions of those components would be a good start in weight reduction. Maybe going with a very skeletonized hand guard would help also.
