Ruger 22/45 compensator question.

My daughter shot her first steel challenge today. Wouldn’t you know it our 22/45 had been very reliable till the buzzer went off today. I think she may have limp wristed it a couple of times. Some ammo related. 

Would a compensator with the extra weight help?

i doubt that a comp would solve a limp wrist problem. 

 

I shoot a Mark 2 in bullseye (now precision pistol). Very accurate. Also picky about cleanliness of the chamber. 

 

Reside builds up at the distal end of chamber and leading edge of rifling. Bullet lube and powder mostly. After about 500 rounds it’s enough to cause misfires because the round doesn’t seat properly. 

 

My fix is to brush the chamber with a 25 caliber rifle length bore nylon brush after every match. The oversized brush cleans very well. The extra length of a rifle brush allows me to bend it so I can clean through the ejection port. 

 

That may or may not help be your problem.

Good point. I do put a small drop of lube on the top bullet in every magazine. I think it keeps the fouling suspended and helps reliability. 

 

Lube in the chamber seems more more important than on the bolt.

Put a drop of oil on the bolt before the match.  It may improve your daughter's reliability with here Mark IV.

Does "limp wristing" mean anything with a 22 semi-auto?  The recoil is so little that having a stiff wrist to resist it can't be an issue.  For that matter most current center fire autos aren't subject to limp wrist failures despite the myths to the contrary.

The reliability of my 22/45 increased dramatically when I did the Tandemkross magazine tweeking.  I also just barely radiused the sharp edge of the bottom of the barrel just above the feed lip.  On my gun this edge was very sharp

Smoothing out the mags helps quite a bit, I also run a bore snake through mine a couple times every 2-300 rounds. 

Runs like a champ with Federal and Aguila ammo.
