Rosswoodford
Have not gotten into reloading just yet, just picked up a new (to me) .40 single stack with the Iowa Sectional a week away and no ammunition just yet. I'll be stuck with factory ammunition until I get a reloading rig set up this winter. Can anyone point me in the direction of some factory ammo that doesn't have any problem making major? (I only ask because I've read that Remington UMC sometimes goes sub-major with .40 and sub-minor with 9mm) Thanks in advance. Ross
GrumpyOne
Winchester white box 180 grain claims 990 FPS, which makes it a 178 PF. The Winchester white box 165 grain claims 1060 FPS, which makes it a 174.9 PF.
phoenixsomd
Atlanta Arms and Freedom Munitions are two well used sources that chrono at Major PFs. Turn around is normally a week or more do check with them before you order.Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
Ssanders224
Here you go! Tuned specifically for USPSA Limited, 2011s and Single Stacks. True jacketed bullet, 171PF, and very clean. Not to mention PD has new lower pricing. You really cannot beat it. http://www.precisiondelta.com/products/40-s-w-180gr-fmj-long-remanufactured-ammunition/

Novagunner
I 2nd Freedom. Never had any issues with them making 172-173 at matches (glock 35). Used the HP and FP.

indy1k
I’ve used the white box When I didn’t have time to load. It always made pf out of my 5” then save the brass for loading later
Rosswoodford
Thanks for all the info. Jussssst starting to order some things to get started reloading.Ordered some precision delta long .40 and that worked extremely well, in case anyone was on the fence themselves! (Went through 1k)
Glenzo
We have to make 170PF in IPSC for Standard (Limited 10). I've been using Blazer Brass which says 985fps on the box and it is pretty consistent making that.
Joe4d
American Eagle 165's was alot milder recoiling than most factory 180's or other brand 165's , Chrono'd 1020 out of my 5" Para Ordnance with the fairly worn factory barrel. That should be about 169pf
JDJ2810
Awesome Info. I will be looking into this myself for both my Limited and Open pistols. I am not setup for reloading yet and need to find a consistent supplier of ammo I dont have to second guess.
pete627
When I first started w/ my 5" Para I was in the same boat and bought a bunch of Blazer Brass (plated) 180's ... they were only 1.125 long (OAL) but worked OK. For me they chronoed at 997 ... making 179pf.
regor
As an additional data point, out of my TSO (5.23"), Federal 165gr RTP chronoed at 1146, making it 189PF.
RJH
I saw Winchester white box 180 grain go 164.something out of a glock 22. So a chrono is the only way to be sure
