t0066jh
Per the video's I've been watching, I've been trying to wiggle the ambi safety out of my Trubor 2011. I've been slowly moving the safety up and down to find the sweet spot where it will pull apart and out. No success. The hammer is back and the safety moves freely up and down. At this point, I see no gap between safety and frame to pry it out. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks......Joe Edited August 29, 2018 by t0066jh
Flatland Shooter
The two sides of the ambi safety are usually held together with a kind of tongue and groove. If the groove is slightly undersized, it may stick enough to give you fits. To get them apart, do exactly what you are doing but it may require more force than you expect. Give it a good pull and it will come apart. Once you have the two halves out of the gun, you may want to dress down the tongue part with a small file. GB3
I like to use an old hotel key card to pry on the safety. The plastic doesn't Mar the finish and they're generally stiff enough to exert the force needed to pop the joint apart.

t0066jh
Thank you, I'll give it a go!! I'm going to replace the safety (too thin) so I'm thinking about using a vice grip to pull on it.???

t0066jh
Thanks for the offer Dennis. I figured it out. I taped up the left side of my slide, installed it on the lower. Using the slide as a fulcrum, I slowly wiggled the safety to find the "sweet spot" where it would come out and pryed it out with a long electrical screwdriver. Damn it was still a tight fit. I've got 4 1911's and 2 other 2011's and never had one that difficult to remove. Thanks to all who responded......Joe

Richie
Using a norton's universal cleaning stick is absolutely great for this and several things on a 1911/2011
