tswisher21
would any one be loading a 147 gn bullet over autocomp? I am shooting bowling pins and need all the energy I can get to move the pins off the table. I am using 124 gn major loads now and would like to try a heavy bullet. please don't tell me to shoot a 45. my plan is to irritate the 45 shooters wo tell me I cant compete with them. thanks tim
Hi-Power Jack
There was a great, in-depth, look at 9mm for bowling pins just a few weeks ago, here on BE. Lot depends on the table - big difference between a 12" wide "shelf" and a 48" wide table. Most people seem to feel the heavier bullet is better than a light bullet, but there was one standout who thought lighter and faster was better than heavy/slow. chevrofreak
When I first played with 9major I tried a RMR 147gr plated RN over 6.6gr of HS6 and it worked, but had very snappy recoil. I would think that a flat nose bullet would help transfer energy to the pin more quickly. RMR makes a 147gr flat nose FMJ. Using simple math, my 124gr JHP 6.8gr WAC load would translate to 5.7gr of WAC to make the same power factor with a 147gr bullet.

BUT, I'd start lower than 5.7 gr WAC and work up slowly with a chrono
