Hornady bullet feeder with XL650

Recommended Posts

I'm currently using the Hornady LnL AP press and have lots of Hornady components. I've always had indexing issues with the Hornady and seriously thinking of upping to the XL650 but don't like the idea of scraping a lot of existing dies and other parts. Wondering if the Hornady 9mm bullet feeder dies will work with the XL650. All the videos I've watched for the 650 show hand placing the bullet in the flared case and that's why I'm wondering if the Hornady bullet feeder would work.

The only photo with the posts shows the bullet tube bent to connect to an auto feeder. I have a rack set up with multiple tubes that I pre-load with bullets and soon as one tube runs out, swap the tube with a fresh one. In the photo it's hard to tell if the straight tubes would clear the brass hopper which would be a must. Thought is to use the Hornady bullet feeder and then the bullet seater/taper crimp die. In theory this should work.....

Maybe this picture will help you.  I used a Hornady Bullet Feed die and it does increase my loading rate.  I added a clip that hold the top part of the tube to the case feeder.  It provides more stability.   No problem clearing the case feeder..

Since that set up is nearly seven years old, how's it doing since then? Also curious where you came up with the clear tubing, much nicer than the aluminum with a view slot at the bottom.

First - advice, based on my personal experience: sell it and buy Mr. Bulletfeeder.  I hated my Hornady bullet feeder with passion.

First - it was incredibly noisy.  So I made a sound-proof cover, and it helped some.  Then it was very inefficient.  While Mr. Bulletfeeder "uses" every bullet, flipping the upside-down ones, the Hornady simply rejects them, slowing it down.  I also had to add the switch to it, so it would not run continuously, making all that noise.

Here are some pictures of my installation... before getting rid of it.
