jim m
Sat down the other night and wrote out a complete check-list of everything i needed for a particular match. WHY? you ask? Because I cleaned my mags and I left them all a table. From now on-- no more thinking I have everything. I am physically touching everything on my check list to make sure its in my bag. EEH
I’ve done stupid stuff just like that. The list is a very good idea.

Stuey
I have left my ammo before. So I have made a checklist before each match. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hi-Power Jack
Worse, I was leaving the range one day in a hurry and left my shooting bag …. At least 3 Open mags, plus other stuff …. Fortunately, the RO found my bag, and I phoned him just in time to claim my bag and contents - happy ending
amokscience
Someone else here posted the best checklist. Goes something like: bullets go into the mags which go into the gun which goes into the holster which goes on the belt which goes onto the inner belt/pants. You can beg, borrow or buy anything else if you forget them.

I ended up using my M&P 9c in open because I had mags stuffed in all my pockets. Still had fun, but I haven't done it a second time.
OPENB
Buddy and I were going from Dayton to Owensboro, Ky. for a 3 gun match. About 20 miles from Louisville, I realized I forgot my belt. I'm left handed, and it was a custom drop leg holster for an open gun, so I wasn't going to be borrowing one. Had to turn around, drive 2.5 hours back, then start over. He said, "We're half way there, and haven't even left the house yet." I now use a mantra, "guns, mags, ammo, eyes, ears, belts" for the bare minumum that will get me through a match. LuvDog
I'm a huge fan of checklists. I have several that I've fine tuned over the years for various activities.
Janskis
Yeah I'm making a checklist too. Forgot my belt when I went to a weekly match yesterday. Luckily one person borrowed his extra.
SweetToof
Bare minimums are a good start. What do I need to shoot a stage? Then what if my gear malfunctions? Then what do I do in between stages? (food, water, shade, sit)
MPF
I've gotten better about going through a mental checklist but when I first started I was so nervous/excited to get to the match that I have forgotten just about every necessity at some point. Luckily the shooting community, as we all know, is really cool and people pretty much throw gear at you if you need it.

I make a "pack out" list for every major match and review it several times. It seems that there's always 'one more thing' to add before departing the pattern! Aggieddad02
My very first major match I left my sponsor Jersys at home. Ended up shooting the match in Walmart polos, which by the way was lucky it was a 24 hour Walmart. I have used a packing list every major since then
boudreux
Written checklist as opposed to a mental one is a great idea. I've left my belt twice, luckily it was just a local match. I do better about checking and rechecking when I go to a major or travel a good distance for a match. The majority of my stuff stays in my range bag all the time so not a whole lot of packing goes on.
MikeThomas
I wrote the book on being a dumb-ass, leaving s#!t at home. I have a list of necessities for each match next to the door that I depart from each morning en route to a match. My wife thinks I'm nuts, but after 15 years of marriage she has become a believer!!! mattmann
I have a checklist on my phone in the notes app for all the reasons above. I drove an hour and a half one day to a pistol match and left all ammo at home. Lucky for me, my buddy shooting with me was shooting 9mm also and had plenty. Sad part is I invited him and he was the newby [emoji17]
ddc
So I had a checklist and still screwed it up. I looked at my checklist and said "oh yeah, of course I've got that". Except I didn't. Now I physically put my hand on everything I need. And I do it twice. Once in the house while I'm staging stuff at the front door. Then in the truck right before I back out the driveway. Part_time_redneck
I have a game room with a pool table where the door opens to the back porch. I use a checklist and stage everything on the table. Everything that goes and nothing else. Hands get laid on everything on the list. Once happy with that it all goes straight to the vehicle. Even once loaded up though, I still follow the " guns - mags, eyes - ears, rigs - ammo" mantra.
Doc1
I've forgotten my match grade ammo sitting on counter for a major match. I've modified my check list this past yr the more matches that I shoot. Can't get everything right the 1st time
Doc1
Also I go through the list and pack the night before so no rush in am.
