cnote
Just a heads up to all SVI brothers, I had my removable breach face retaining screw break on me and cause a death jam. When trying to clear it the breachface fell out the grip onto the range. I went to the safe table to look at the gun, and a friend actually found the breach face on the ground. Saved me $50 at least..... It will now be a part of routine maintenance when the gun gets more than field stripped to check this screw!!!!!!!! ltdmstr
Interesting. If the head broke off of the screw it was probably overtorqued when installed.
pjb45
It takes an allen wrench.
ltdmstr
Yes it takes and Allen wrench. But the point is it's hollow to allow the firing pin to pass through and there's a torque spec because it's somewhat delicate and if you exceed that amount it will snap at the shoulder. Or in this case, it probably cracked then failed later.
427Cobra
Blue loktite holds it in place with minimal torque, I agree the screw must have been over torqued
ltdmstr
Spec is 18-20 inch pounds.

When mine broke, the removable breach face exited the gun with the empty case, the next round fed from the magazine and KABOOM! It blew the magazine apart and cracked the plastic grip, but no other major damage to the gun, although I did need new underRoos and my face felt like I'd been bitch slapped by the Hulk. The fired case was fire-formed into the removeble breach face cavity.
