Excursion12
I would like to try a FLGR in my tactical 4.0 STI 2011. I saw an older thread where they linked to one on Dawson's website that is no longer available. Which guide rods will fit my gun if I want to get rid of the recoil master system? Thanks
tmz
I picked one up from SV that works just fine. http://infinity.americommerce.com/guide-rod.aspx

Does the svi reverse plug work in the sti also?

tha1000
Interesting. My sv reverse plug from my commander length top end is a completely different length than the stock plug in my STI Tactical 4.0. Edited July 16, 2018 by tha1000

I called today and they said their commander length reverse plug is 1.245" long. The one in my STI is about .95". I think I am going to get a standard 5" guide rod and trim it down. The stock reverse plug for the recoil master is .34" ID. This should work with a standard guide rod diameter.
tha1000
Let me know how it works. I’m on my second recoil master. I bought a wilson unit and it didn’t fit either... PITA

I had to trim a couple coils off the wolff (16#) recoil spring to keep it from bottoming out. Ran great with several different loads. Much smoother recoil pulse than the RM system. I am going to try a 15 and 14 pound to see how they run as well next time out. The rod sticks out the end exactly the same amount as the barrel. I may turn it down to be flush with the reverse plug, but it doesn't look bad as is.
tha1000
Which one did you purchase? I’m running a 12# commander length spring on my sv top end. Ive got no complaint about the smoothness or recoil impulse of the recoil master, I’ve got complaints about when it fails. When it fails, it fails spectacularly and requires magic to even get the gun apart. Edited July 22, 2018 by tha1000

Excursion12
The new rod measures .324" the recoil master that went into this (stock) reverse plug is .331". I asked EGW about it, they said it was more clearance than they would design into a plug, but it should be fine. I shot it a bit and don't see any odd scratches or wear that makes me think it will be a problem.
