Pcc popple holes

I have wanted to try this for probably a year.  Velocity drop wasn’t as bad as I thought.  1235  before the three holes, 1218 after.

What was the effect on other performance? Make any difference in dot movement, etc?

I didn’t get to put a lot of rounds through it.  It seemed to flatten it out.  Recoil was roughly the same.

What are you using for a forearm/handguard?  If the holes are under it, are they damaging it at all?

My home made laser.  I got sick of my purchased lasers losing zero and the batteries going dead.  This is a very rough prototype.  It looks like hell, but it works great.

There's not much gas velocity going on with my jp gmr15 at the comp.........3.2  TG  147's.

 

Fired it with comp touching cardboard sideways-like.

 

All it did was leave a bit of soot on cardboard.

 

Whereas my open pistol shreds the cardboard......major loads autocomp.

 

And if somehow my finger was touching the open pistol comp (hypothetical), I suspect there would be some real damage.

I made the mistake of wrapping my thumb over the “exhaust port” once.  Very uncomfortable, made my thumb black, but everything was still intact.  Not going to do that again.

How large are the ports?  At 1235 fps I assume you are loading 115 gr bullets, right?

All right, I'm super curious about this setup. Did you just drill popple holes into the ULW barrel, or did you do something more elaborate for the mid-barrel comp? 

 

Edit- upon closer examination, it looks like you're actually just running one of Taccom's extensions with the comp, right?

The popple hole barrel is a spinta I purchased on sale last year.  The pic above is a generic barrel that I chopped and threaded, then designed my own comp. I tig welded a sleeve to that and did a pin and weld.

Any updates?  Are the popple holes helpful?  Adding them to your Guard?
