Dirty brass

Hey guys. Just a question.  Reloading for 9mm and noticed on more then just a few rounds the brass was scorched on one side.  Is this a reloading issue or a chamber issue.  Firearm is a stock glock 19 gen 4,  this particular reload was a 147gn xtp with 3.6gn of titegroup, federal 100 primers loaded to 1.125  brass used was geco.  But have noticed the same issue with my federal brass.

I find this is typical with factory ammo. My understanding is that it indicates that the brass isn’t getting a good seal in the chamber... or maybe it is ejecting early... I guess I’m not sure because factory is typically hotter than my reloads and that’s were I see it.

The point is, it’s not a problem.

That's a function of titegroup. It did the same thing to my brass running ~133pf.  Other powders did it less, some not at all.

The only thing I can guess is when the slide starts back, the barrel unlocks allowing a portion of the brass to be exposed to the chamber area, resulting in the smiley of soot.

Good to know guys.  Thank you.

I was trying to attach a pic from my phone but it says the files too big.  Any easy way to upload a photo from a phone.  Photo is 3 mb.

screen shot your picture and upload the screen shot.  It should be smaller.

It's also because a 9mm is truly not a straight wall case, but has a very slight taper. And when we reload, we use a carbide die which sizes the case straight. So the cartridge is not fitting the exact shape of the chamber. And so you get some hot gases blowing back along the cases.
