Moving to Dallas very soon - can someone give me a run down on the good matches and where all the gun clubs are so I don’t try to live forever from a good gun club

If you are willing to drive up to 2 hours (depending where you live), you can get to these clubs as well:

1. Tyler Tactical Shooters (at Mineola, about 1 hour 30 min from East Dallas) - 4th Sat (https://www.facebook.com/tylertacticalshooters/)

2. Temple Gun Club (at Temple, about 1 hour 45 min from South Dallas) - 3rd Sat (https://www.facebook.com/Temple-Gun-Club-Practical-Pistol-Shooters-110768648994849/)

Lol. Yep, been pretty low profile for a bit.

I’ll give you a shout next week for lunch, or a cup of coffee somewhere.

I shot with Collin County last week.  Was in the area on vacation.  Great bunch of guys and a nice range.  Wasn't their fault I DQ'ed.

Hey I was there but I don’t think I was in your squad.  Which stage got you?  The cone stage or the one with the pair of 20 yard paper shots across the width of the bay?

This is a good list for USPSA. I would also add www.northtexasmtigun.com to it for 3gun and steel matches.

The classifier.  I dropped my gun.  The cone stage was fun.

Cone stage was very fun although I wish I had just rolled the dice on a long distance toss instead of shooting one handed half the stage.  I need to quit being so conservative and take some risks!

Glad you got to shoot a little before the DQ ?

I shot the star then all the other targets to the left, then picked up the cone.  Shot the next target one handed since it was close.  Put the cone down before shooting the last two targets.  A lot of guys were tossing the cone, but being left handed I thought i might sweep myself if I tried.

Great information!

I just moved to Lantana TX from Rhode Island, can you recommend any good places to practice?

I'm looking for a place that has pistol pits, I can set-up a mini stage/drills, and draw from a holster.

Thank you for your time!

Will

Check out Proactive Defense, probably a 15 min drive from Lantana

Unfortunately there aren't any USPSA matches in Dallas anymore (that I'm aware of).  In the late 80s/early 90s there were quite a few.  Targetmaster - at one time had two matches per week - DPC had at least one per month plus you could practice there.  Plano indoor range had one a month and there were a few not too far out of town.

Get on the wait list for Dallas Pistol Club (DPC), http://dallaspistolclub.com/ it'll go much faster than the stated wait time.

The closest place to you is probably Proactive Defense at I35W and FM1171.  Other options are much further out, ETTS and TDSA have great set ups, probably an hour drive south from Lantana.

Mission 160 is northeast of you , around an hour or so.

For the OP, in addition to the USPSA matches noted earlier, DPC has steel or action pistol matches 3/4 weekends and Elm Fork range http://www.elmfork.com/ has steel/hybrid matches the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays from roughly to 6p-9p
