Tompac
Anybody have an OAL that works for them? Xtreme lists nothing and google didn’t help.
Steve RA
Might be better to do a few dummy rounds and find what works best in your own gun.
bjones6686
I just looked in my Lyman Reloading Manual 48th edition and it shows 185gr HP starting at 1.175 OAL. Probably start there with some dummy rounds and make sure the gun feeds them properly.
Hi-Power Jack
Don't forget to run The Plunk Test before you load too many rounds
pbcaster45
I load the Rainier 185 gr FN to 1.215 and the Rainer 185 gr HP to 1.230, from my S&W PC1911... Edited June 2, 2018 by pbcaster45
zzt
1.185" will run in one of my pistols. The other requires 1.200", so I load to 1.200" or longer.
Steve RA
Wouldn't it be better to load to the shorter length so you could use all the ammo in either gun ???
Hi-Power Jack
I'd guess that ZZT means 1.185" OR LONGER will run in his pistol - but the other gun will NOT run the shorter rounds. Both guns probably run the 1.200" ….
Steve RA
That is a possibility.
wgj3
For the OP, start somewhere around 1.19-1.20 and see if that chambers ("plunk and spin"). Then, try shooting a few and makes sure it seems to run in your mags. Every gun is a little different, and then you add in the different bullet profiles and there's even more variability.
