CZ SP01 for IDPA in single action only

Recommended Posts

I've fairly recently started to shoot  in IDPA.
I used to shoot a CZ SP01  until I decided to switch to the GLOCK 34 Gen 4 I'm using now, as the double & single action of the CZ to me was a bit of a pain in the neck, and I wasn't very good at the transition.
Recently  I've found an oldish CZ SP01 modified from double-single action to single action only.
I wonder if I can use it in IDPA ESP Division.

Thanks a lot for your reply.

One of the better pistols to use in that division.

... but I'm partial to the 34 ?

Generally the CZ  SP01  out of the box can only be used in the SSP division, so I assume with the modified action (only single) should be allowed in the ESP  division.

IDPA rules arent my strong suit, but from my understanding.

Anything in SSP can be used in ESP, but everything in ESP cannot be used in SSP.

The DA/SA nature of the stock SP01 puts it into the SSP category.

Any SAO gun is excluded from SSP and moved into ESP, so a SOA SP01 (factory or otherwise) would be in ESP.

I am however getting into production and will probably shoot ESP with my G34 shortly.

or you could just practice so that you can shoot double-action too. it's not like it's hard.

and CZ's have a pretty great DA trigger.

I'm fond of SAO myself, its all personal preference.

Wouldn't carrying the SP-01 cocked and locked put you in ESP?

This. Just get a larger safety for your SP-01 and use it cocked and locked for ESP. I have done the exact same thing for mine to shoot in ESP for those rare weekends when there are no USPSA matches.
