MP9
Hi all. I have been reading for some time but but haven't found so much info. Don't know why, but I have some curiosity on how the slide cuts and milling is done. Not sure if CNC milling is what is still used for that or maybe laser?.. I read a little bit of cncguns, grizzly, little machine shop but still very basic, any feedback is appreciated. thanks
Toolguy
Either manual or CNC will get the job done. They did it manually in production for most of 100 years. Most of the cuts are very basic straight line cuts with various tools except for the graphic arts type cuts on the high end USPSA guns.
Chui
ATEI in the Detroit Metro Area would be my suggestion. It's owned by an admitted friend but I only befriended him at a shooting class and that was before I was even remotely interested in his products. SUPERB workmanship - I've got a Glock 19 with RMR mounted by him and he should soon be offering W DLC coating through IonBond as well. Check out the website and give him a call. ltdmstr
I have never heard of making slide cuts with a lazer. Most are done either manual milling, CNC milling, surface grinding, wire EDM or some combination of thereof. If you're talking about simple stuff like flat top, tri-top, serrations, sights, etc., that's all pretty basic machining that anyone with a mill, a little knowledge and some practice should be able to handle. Broncman
Built my open gun on a Grizzly bench top mill. Trip top, lightening holes, everything....all manual! Just keep good notes and layout prints.
