lfine
Besides Brian Enos' book, can someone recommend a good book to start with as an introduction?
benos
If you are looking for a book on zen, Shunryu Suzuki's, Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind, is filled with subtle gems. After I typed that, I saw a random email today that I'd saved, to a guy who asked me for a list of my favorite zen books. Here it is... ================== Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind, by Shunryu Suzuki Transmission of Light, specifically, the translation by Thomas Cleary The Zen Teaching of Bodhidharma, translated by Red Pine The Transmission of the Lamp: Early Masters, translated by Sohaku Ogata The complete Works of Chuang Tzu, translated by Burton Watson Carefree Dignity, by Tsokni Rinpoche As it Is, Vol. II, by Tulku Uregen Rinpoche I Am That, by Nisargadatta Maharaj ================= The books from those various traditions all boil down, from their cultural perspective, the core teaching of paying attention.
