Word_Bro
I have no experience with precision rifle, and am wondering....how do I get started?!?! Does anyone have recommendations for precision/long range target practice in the Houston, TX and San Antonio areas?
38superman
Go to the prs webiste, www.precisionrifleseries.com. Look for past or pending matches that are held in Texas. Once you have a location you will find that the range that's hosting a major match probably also has local club matches from time to time. Sign up and show up. That's all there is to it. Get your rifle tuned up and ready, Try to find someplace you can shoot out as far as possible and check your dope. You need to have a good ballistic calculator. You need to test your loads at long range to tell you if your calculator is giving you good information on where your rounds are impacting before the match. You basically only need your rifle, ammo, bipod, sling, and maybe some bags. A ruck sack to carry it all and you're off to a good start. How ready are you to shoot, if not that ready, see if there is a league shoot in your area first. League shooting is more laid back and people have more time to talk to you. Talk to the people there and take a lot of notes, take pictures of what the other guys have and get an idea of what you are getting into. I brought a gun and some stuff the first time I want to a 600 KD league night shoot and was just going to watch but the league director had me ranged in at 100 yards to confirm my gun and scope could reach track out to 600 yards. It was great!

427Cobra
Before you go and spend a bunch of money on stuff you’ll be replacing with stuff that you actually need, take a class, yes it’s expensive, but education can never be taken away, I suggest taking Rifles Only PR 1/2 in Kingsville TX, it’s a 5 day class, cost is 1400 bucks. If you can’t afford that, you can’t afford Precision Rilfe
Jeremyc_1999
I'd find a local range that shoots matches and then RO for them or ask to walk along with a squad. Then you buy a rifle and optic and reloading gear and you will be off and running. I will warn you from experience it makes all other shooting sports look cheap. tbone40x
I shoot with these guys every month: http://www.txprecisionmatches.com/. That is a great way to get started. The Texas guys have a FB site under TXPRC that I can add you to if you are interested. Send me your email and I'll get you added. I started a blog, check it out when you have a sec: http://www.texasprecisionshooting.com/
