It was also independently convergently developed for multigun competition use by Russel Phagan (aka Sinistral Rifleman on YT) of KE Arms in Arizona;

The concept basically borrows components and theories of Open competition guns and applies them to a more practical/tactical oriented purpose. It's an idea I've had for many years, was just trying to figure out what platform to build on. With the introduction of the X-Carry, I've found the right platform.

Future plans will include a Bar-Sto Compact threaded barrel and Springer Precision shorty (factory/minor pf ammo) compensator, along with magwell and extended magazine kits. At some point hopefully in the near future at least some company will also be producing some kind of machined metal grip module for the P320, and assuming the ergonomics are on point I'll be adding that as well

I find it absolutely fascinating that two different people were working on two similar problems from different ends of the spectrum (trying to squeeze as much performance out of a pistol while maintaining a relatively compact size - One for concealable duty use, the other to fit a competition box) and more or less arrived at the same conclusion. It brings credence to the concept for me and while I've never been a Glock fan, I think the principles learned from the experiences of these two skilled shooters can be applied to other platforms. Perhaps with even better results...

While I wait on the rest of my parts to show up, here are a few other examples of the slide-mounted red dot/minor pf compensator/Surefire flashlight combination on various different platforms, including a HK VP9, CZ P-07, and a standard P320. The combination seems to work best on a pistol with a compact slide length (about 4" barrel), which makes the short compensator protrude from the muzzle about the same length as the bezel of the Surefire X300U;

Mmm...Magwells...

Pretty sure I could toss a magazine into this thing from across a room now and it'd seat properly.

ETA: Bar-Sto threaded barrel and compensator have been ordered...:ph34r:

I am beginning to realize that this particular configuration, while fantastic for a full-size competition/defense gun, will not be much conducive to a concealable carry sized platform...

Looks like once I'm done building out the full-size gun it'll be time to order a compact or subcompact caliber x-change kit :D I love this platform!

  • 2 weeks later...

23 rounds is better, but a reloadable 27 rounds is MORE better.

All you need to make one of these is an OEM 21 round magazine tube, a Springer Precision EZ 140mm extended base pad (https://shop.springerprecision.com/product.sc?productId=356&categoryId=85) and a Grams Engineering 13 coil spring and follower kit (https://shop.springerprecision.com/product.sc?productId=379&categoryId=85)

Unfortunately I don't have a USPSA magazine gauge so I have no idea if the 21 round magazine with SP base pad fits a 170mm gauge, but my purposes isn't for USPSA anyway. Slide locks back on empty with both lengths using the Grams follower. 23 round/140mm magazine on the left, 27 round magazine on the right;

I'll be interested to see how this runs with different kinds of ammo once the Springer comp is added. I did order the "shorty" minor PF two-port comp rather than the larger "open" three-port comp, as the smaller is stated to function best with most factory loads.

Either way I do intend to shoot primarily factory loaded +P and +P+ rounds, since I know the compensator will work best with as much gas pushing through it as possible

It's Springer Precision's compensator, they make several;

https://shop.springerprecision.com/category.sc;jsessionid=BC0950F695952F63272A1C9D6438C139.p3plqscsfapp004?categoryId=86

This one is the "shorty" compensator with 1/2x28 threading to match the Bar-Sto barrel threading (they also make compensators with M13.5x1LH threading to match the OEM Sig threaded barrels). This compensator combined with the Bar-Sto barrel and specifying threading meant for a compensator results in the smallest overall package and fits with the bezel of the X300U very well, as you can see. While the barrel is made by Bar-Sto, I also ordered it through Springer Precision;

SP offers either a fullsize (standard 4.7" P320, NOT the X-Five 5" bull barrel) or compact barrel length, either unthreaded or threaded and you can specify whether the threading is intended for a compensator or suppressor.

If you're looking for a threaded barrel for the X-Five, Bar-Sto also makes those - They're just not available through SP's website (yet);

You'd want to look at one of SP's compensators with M13.5x1LH threading if you're sticking with the OEM Sig barrel. They have either a smaller two-port compensator for factory minor PF 9mm or a larger three-port compensator if you're going to be using factory +P or handloaded major PF 9mm.

To my knowledge, SP is the only company currently manufacturing compensators that fit the OEM Sig barrel threading as well as the overall profile of the P320 slide

Happy to help!

I should probably state for the record - I am in no way affiliated with nor compensated by Springer Precision, Bar-Sto, Sig Sauer or any other company. I just enjoy sharing information on quality products and helping to get people thinking creatively!

Can't wait to hear how this shoots. Can you take a picture of the ramp/chamber of the barsto barrel? I'm curious how it looks compared to the stock one.

Thanks in advance.
