Sport Pistol powder

I hit 134 pf on my first try, with Sport Pistol, and noticed they shot a lot softer, but, when I walked down to the target (25 yards) I saw that the bullets were still tumbling. I

My 9mm revolver shoots 160's from SNS & Bayou over sport pistol very well, likely closer to 130 pf than 134, have never seen a bullet tumble.Never saw it with that bullet and titegrooup either. For what it is worth.

128 pf shoots fine. It’s just when I tried to push them up to 132-135pf when they were tumbling.

I won’t go to any major match with 128 pf loads.

No worries. I've done a lot of fiddling with the SNS & Bayou coated versions and several different powders / load recipes / power factors and .356 vs .357 vs .358 diameter. Never have seen any tumbling with 160's under any conditions. Just a for what it is worth.

All 8 shot averages from a Shadow 2 in 45 degree weather using mixed brass and Fed spp.

My load is similar to yours, I use 3.2 gr SP with 145 Rn Bayou bullet at 1.135. Todays chrono with TSO was 902 FPS grouped 10 shots in 1.94" at 25 yds in ransom rest.

The particular bullets I'm working with, are sized .356. A few years ago, I bought some that were sized .357, and in the pistol I was trying to use them in, at the time were more accurate than .356, but, I could only load the .357 bullets in Federal brass, otherwise, I couldn't get them in my Wilson case gauge.

I'm getting 1"-1 1/2" groups out of the same brand of bullet, in 147 grain, at 25 yards, out of both of my Xfives. Even though the 160 grain bullets aren't as accurate out of my pistols, they shoot softer. I've been having issues with my hands, and haven't been able to shoot limited, or single stack, with major loads in the last few years.

I actually talked to the bullet manufacturer and his first thought was that I had too much crimp. I told him that I don't have any crimp. I'm using once-fired Winchester brass and measured every case for length and have my die set to just straighten the bell. His next suggestion was to switch to Sport Pistol, but, at around 830 fps, I still get tumbling out of 3 different pistols.

I guess that I'll just use up what I have left at local matches, running them at 800 fps. I won't take them to a major match without more cushion than that.

That said, this thread is about Sport Pistol powder, and I'm REALLY impressed with it. It meters well, is softer, and more accurate than VV310, and when at the chronograph almost all are duplicate readings. I assume the few that are a little lower, or higher are because, according to my scale, the bullets don't always weigh out exactly the same. One of these days, I'll try some Zero, or Hornadays which I've found to be consistent.

I just chronoed 3.3 grains of Sport Pistol, behind SNS 147 grain bullet, in once fired, Winchester brass, and Federal Gold Medal match primers. 15 rounds averaged 900 FPS, with one low one of 897 FPS

Fired out of Sig Xfive.

Are you loaded long? I get the same numbers with the exact same combo but using only 3.1 grains (9mm 1911). 3.3 was giving me an average of 940.

I’m loaded to 1.141”.

I load 3.14 gr of SS behind 147 Blue Bullets @ 1.145” and get 890 from my XDm. btw, I get single digit SD. And max spread is less than 20fps
At 3.3 grains I get 907fps.

Thanks for the info.

Those are great numbers. I have a thousand of those RMR JHPs that I can load for my Shadow 2 and TSO at that OAL.

The PPQ is also pretty picky about OAL... So I picked an OAL that will plunk in that barrel to avoid having too many "special" boxes of ammo on the 9mm shelf.  The VP9-L was used because I just added it to the collection not long ago.  It may not find a home in my USPSA routine but it may just become my IDPA SSP.

LMAO,,,, yeh over an hour away.   Have no idea how to do that if I wanted,  So which button do I push on the order form to get them to do that ? Just what I want to do, take time off work, and drive an hour plus into Richmond during middle of week during non rush hour. Will just order from a company like Powder Valley that actually has a clue.

Both have a delivery manager that you can make changes to shipments arriving to your location, you just create an account online. They will also sent you emails when packages are started to your address. It pretty simple. Just trying to help.

Oh wow - those ARE a great deal.

I'd be all over those if I didn't also shoot a 9mm revolver. As it stands, I need me some ogive for fast reloads.

Do you have any accuracy data to go with what you tested? Does it shoot a 2" group or 6" group? that is important too.

This is what I got using a ransom rest with the same basic load.
