3.0gr Titegroup

147gr coated bullet

1.130-1.135 OAL

Soft shooting load, that makes power factor.  Shot bayou's for a while with this load.

Other than using 3.1gr, this is basically the same load I use with Bayou 147. If you search the BE forums, you will find this is a very popular load.

In a G17, I run a 13# recoil spring but springs are otherwise stock. Never had an issue with functioning and recoil is not an issue (for me). Some run a 11# but I'm not sure of the rest of their spring setups. Personally, I keep the game gun pretty close to stock to maintain reliability. I don't like things that stop working. YMMV.

What bullet profile did you run with the bayous. Rn or the flat nose ones

This is what I use in my Glock 17L with a Lone Wolf barrel.  A factory barrel might require deeper seating and load adjustment.  The thinner Federal brass really helps with seating too -  these bullets measure .357.

Bullet:  Blue Bullet Coated 147 gr. RN
Powder:  Hodgdon Titegroup 3.2 grs.
Primer:  Winchester Small Pistol
Case:  Federal
LOAL:  1.145

Comments:  ISMI 13 lb. recoil spring and Jager Polymer Guide Rod

Dunno what others have noticed, but I found getting 147fps over 900 fps led to better groupings at 15yds and beyond. Didn't find enough of a recoil difference with the appropriate grip applied to warrant going super soft sub 130pf.

I couldn’t agree more. Which is why I run mine at 3.4grs TG and about 960FPS. I tried every load between “wouldn’t cycle with a 10 pound spring” and “too hot too handle”.

I found the same to be true with almost every handgun load I’ve tried. To slow and the groups open up big time beyond about 30 feet. But conversely, to fast and they also start spraying.

At a little higher velocity they still shoot flat and are good to 60-70 feet. Beyond that, get a rifle.

currently loading a 147gr RN from Blue Bullets with 3.2gr TG and an OAL of 1.155" and a 0.375" - 0.377" crimp.  After reading some of these I may try to shorten my OAL to the 1.135-1.140 range and try it out. This is all out of my Gen 4 G34.

Although, I haven't had a chance to chrono anything, I just know that all the rounds I have loaded with the above have cycled and been accurate. So until I get a chrono I most likely wont change anything.

So true!

The type of powder you use affects grouping too. Titepoop is the worst. I found that my Titegroup loads didn't tighten up until I was near 140 PF.

  • 2 weeks later...

147gr Blue Bullet RN over 3.1 grains at 1.125"  gets me at a 135 power factor in a bone stock Gen 4 34. That's doing the math for 147 even though the round nose blues average 150 grains, the 147 gr blue flat point lands in at 134 power factor.
