Bayou 160 gr bullet smoking

Recommended Posts

I recently started using Bayou 160 gr .358 dia for my S&W 627. A friend recommended these which is what caused me to switch from BBI bullets. Performance / accuracy seems to be fine but I notice that they are smokey. Never saw this with BBI bullets.

Anyone else with similar experience?

Several 1000 (over 20K) of Bayou w/o problems

I run TiteGroup out of my 929 at 130 PF and they don't seem to smoke, which surprised even me ( i.e. bad rep of TG and HyTek bullets etc)

Check your crimp maybe you're opening up the coating

2nd thought is what dia. .355 or .358

I run .358 in my autos and Revo's

Just ran a cylinder full of Bayou 160 grain .358 RN through my 929 yesterday using 2.6 grains of Clays....1.162 oal.  Didn't notice any smoke and was happy with how clean the fired cases were.  Plan to do more testing with this load for Powder Factor an accuracy.

Bayous I shoot with TG smoke. Minor and does not bother me, but they do. They also have an extremely strong oder.

+1 That's one of the reasons I stop using it....it's very accurate but I didn't like the smell.
