Topic Reply Email Notification

Recommended Posts

If you are having problems getting your topic reply email notifications to work, try the following method:

1. My Controls

2. Email Settings

3. Enable Email Notification by Default -Immediate

4. Amend my email settings

5. Subscription -View Topics

6. bottom of page-Show Topics from "the beginning"

7. GO

8. Check all with check box on the top right, on the header row

9. "Change to: Immediate Email Notification" -WITH SELECTED

A special thanks to forum member Zak Smith for documenting this process.

I'd love to know what "Subscription auto pruning is switched off at present" means and how to toggle it.

Yea, I just went there and was coming back to delete my post. I don't think that has anything to do with just AOL users not getting email notifications.

I just tried an experiment. I changed the "Mail Delivery Method" from PHP to SMTP.

Let me know if anything changes.

While I have AOL, I am no help. I seldom use it as my web browser (use IE instead)...and, I never have notification setup for posts on the BE forum as I am here often enough anyway.

I can't believe it. After 2 or 3 months I'm finally getting E-mail notifications. I'm glad that AOL finally got their head out of their a$$.

That's exciting news. It's been a giant PITA since we changed servers. Not only for members not receiving new post notifications, but for me too as I have to deal with the daily - "I can't post" emails from AOL members who never got the registration emails from the forum.

But for sure it's not AOL that pulled their head out. The problem was solved by Rob, who figured out:

1. AOL routinely blocks emails from specific servers.

2. Our new dedicated server was somehow still associated with the previous (servers) owner's IP address.

3. Petitioned/convinced AOL to remove the block from our server.

Thanks Rob. It's hard to say where we'd be without you.

I just ran a test and the Enosverse is indeed able to connect to the AOL email server without the dreaded "554" error.

Yes - read the "Help" link at the top, right corner of every page... there's lots of good stuff in there.

I just thought of this. If you're not getting email notifications, you might try -

1.

First, unsubscribe from you all forums for all forums you are currently subscribed to.

2.

Then, clear your web browser's cache, and also remove all brianenos.com cookies in your browser's Preferences/Settings.

3.

Then re-subscribe to some forums, and see if that helps.

If that helps anyone, please reply to this post.
