JohnAdam
Hey guys, my wife has shown some interest in duck hunting with me and I'm looking for some suggestions on a 20 gauge semi automatic for her. We shot some clays today and she did alright for it being her first time but I could tell she was really having trouble with the length of the guns even with all the shims took out to make it as short as possible for her. I let her shoot my Sweet 16 and even though the size of the gun fit her she was really timid about it from the kick so I'm definitely looking for a gas operated semi auto. If possible I'd like try to stay under $600 in case she doesn't like hunting so I'm not spending a bunch of money for a gun to collect dust in the gun cabinet. I was thinking about possibly a TriStar shotgun which had surprisingly good reviews for a company that I'd never heard of before coming across them on my local gun store's website. Please help me pick the gun that will get her addicted and coming back for more! Edited September 19, 2017 by JohnAdam
Hi-Power Jack
I think hunting ducks is difficult enough using a 12 gauge - I'd hate to try hunting them with a 20 gauge. I'd bet she'd have more fun with a 12 gauge that fits her, and has a HUGE recoil pad, and actually hits the ducks ....
12Bravo
My mom shoots an 1100 in 20ga, seems to work for her, although I don't normally suggest Remingtons. I would suggest a Beretta a300 in 12ga, nice soft shooting gun. Edited September 19, 2017 by 12Bravo
JesseTischauser
A 20 gauge Benelli M2 feels like a million bucks! Super light and easy to throw around. Wish I melt mine.
dogtired
For the budget Benelli look at the Stoeger 3020 compact.
Chriswakey
If she is recoil sensitive be careful with the Benelli m2 and derivatives that are inertia operated. I've got bad shoulders and the only gun I've found I can shoot all day due to the lack of recoil is the versamax, It is a heavy gun though compared to others. Ethanolguy
I bought a Stoeger 3020 compact for my daughter, its a nice gun for the money. Was about $500. I wish I had bought a Franchi Affinity instead as they are a little nicer gun but I'm still happy with the Stoeger for what it is.
