Brian Enos's Forums... Maku mozo!

Funny load request.

My local club started a monthly outdoor night match. My normal day load 147gr bear creek moly and 3gr TG while normally not very smoky durning the day, seemed pretty smoky at night with a light mounted. I'm looking to work up a dedicated "night" load. I'm going to try 147gr xtreeme HP's, but I'm not sure on the powder. Any help would be nice. Shooting in a g34

My go to subsonic load for my G34 after hundreds of rounds of testing. Shoot it suppressed as well. I've shot it day and night and haven't noticed any smoke. It's cheap and accurate.

I know most guys find the sweet spot to be the 135 PF range so this is a little high but still in the ball park. Shoots soft enough for me.

I'm guessing it's the hot burning TG combined with the moly that's giving you a little smoke.

After running into the smoke issue early in the Summer when the air became humid in the afternoon I found Sport Pistol to be the least smokey of all the more popular powders with coated bullets and smokeless with jacketed bullets. There was a dramatic difference If that helps.

Power Pistol is not very smoky but it has a very bright flash which might not be great at night.

for night shooting stay away from power pistol, unless you want to be showy. I'm using it in my last batch of round and even in a lighted indoor range it has a very bright flash.

The smoke is from the moly coating, not the powder. Use plated bullets if the targets are not too far and extreme accuracy is not required.

Titegroup is also pretty smoky entirely on its own. Switching to another powder will reduce the smoke, even with jacketed rounds.
