Chills1994
Okay everybody....so when is Dillon going to come out with a brass striping die for their progressive machines? And a multitude of ink colors/reservoirs to choose from? I figure the 650 and the 1050 would be the easiest to set up with such a factory die since they have 5 (plus) stations. For the 550 which I've got there's only 4 stations. I've got it set up for: 1. Decap/resize 2. Bell and charge with powder 3. Seat da buuuullllitttt 4. Lee FactoryCrimp Die I suppose you could try to seat and crimp at station 3, then have a striping die at # 4. Or Dillon could just come up with a combination crimp and striping die. I can see it now.....A die with an ink reservoir and cotton/felt circular doughnut doohickey along with some metal spring activated gizmo that compresses said inked doughnut/ring onto the shell giving your ammo a nice clean annular ink ring. Chills1994
Hey Quicksdraw, Nice setup you got there. Good pics too. Not knocking your design, but.....I'm just uptight and want a nice clean line all the way around. Your's would certainly be the fastest/most efficient set up so far. Jake Di Vita
I think we have found a new definition for anal.
Chills1994
Yep, anal, alright it is! That was the word I was going to use up above but I didn't know if it would be appropriate to use in this forum. Give me time I'll come up with a gadgett to get my single striping Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder neatness highly efficient-inated, automated groove on. Then I'll post some pics in a new post and you all will be envious of my ingenuity born of anal retentiveness. Yeahhh!!!! I'll show all of you!!!! (Removing tongue from cheek now). On a more serious note..... can you ever be "too anal" about making ammo? A guy at the range yesterday showed us his .44 Mag he blew up. Top strap gone, cylinder in 3 pieces. First question out of my mouth was "Were you shooting reloads?" "Mnnn.. well, yes." If you wanna see anal pick up a Sinclair catalog or Creedmoor or Champion's Choice. Lotsa gadgets in 'em. Or take a look at a video on high power or bench rest rifle handloading. Of course, it's all relative, too. Off to "questions that don't fit anywhere" and "things I hate". Holliday89
I have decied to keep as much as my brass as I could. That being...here is the brass striper/marker I made. Items are White cutting board Paint stiring stick 2 clamps 2 Marks-A-Lot markers. Total price around 4.00 just a guess as most of the stuff was in the house, just had to dig a little. Set this up in a "V" like setting so I could put the case in and twist. From the pics you can see how much of the case gets covered--almost half. Those of us that have OCD you should like the nice very neat and clean ring around the case. .40 and 38 Super Comp are marked in pic Sorry I forgot to mention I cut the tip of the markers with a razor blade to get them to sit more even on the case when in the V. Holliday89
Thanks guys, Just for point of reference I did 300 -350 rounds last night in about 30 min.
Hoofy
A small recess in the stiring stick will make it easier to spin the round.
shred
I suggest drilling a hole in the board/stick and/or putting the ammo in bullet-first. Keeps them in the right place easier.
Anon
My five year old like to color mine I realize he's eight years old now (old post), but I wouldn't let small children handle ammunition. Even full-plated stuff. Overly cautious, maybe. Edited December 15, 2008 by Anon
