93notch
Hey guys i am shooting a 38super caspian custom 2011 set up. I am trying to get the recoil down a little bit. Currently shooting 8.0 grain of V105 i believe that is the correct powder. I haven't looked for a month or so. With 125grain BBI bullet. I got the gun 2nd hand so i don't know what spring set up it has in it.
kneelingatlas
Are you trying to load major? Have you chrono'd that load, I would imagine it's a few at least a grain light. When you say "recoil" do you mean muzzle flip, or slap in the hand?
Hi-Power Jack
Is there a compensator on the gun? You might throw in a lighter spring ...
3gunDQ
Either way, replace the spring. Grip the pistol like a grown ass man.
redfisher
"Hey guys i am shooting a 38super caspian custom 2011 set up." a bit of an oxymoron, is it a caspian or 2011? But to the point, in 38 super I'm shooting 9.3 of 3n37 under a 115 Hap. About to switch to 3n38. I used to shoot a Caspian and now I shoot a 2011. That refers to the frame/grip/magazine jeff
Acsr
38 super/ sc trubor for me I've loaded 7.6 gr of auto comp, then moved to aa#7 @10.3 gr then added three popple holes and loaded up to 10.5 gr #7 for a avg of 1411 fps. App shooting a124 gr jacketed hp loaded at 1.235,shots soft and dot tracks nicely
93notch
yes there is a comp on the gun. When i say recoil i mean muzzle flip/ rise. We did chrono it it was 1507 fps so yes they are a little hot. Where should i start with springs? i am using to shooting super soft 9mm stuff so i don't know where to start with this new animal. And yes i know the 2011 and caspian are different. Caspian also makes a single stack, so i pointed out that it was a double stack....
superdude
We need to know your exact load data in order to make suggestions. No guessing allowed. 8 grains of N105 won't produce 1500 fps with a 125 grain bullet. Well, maybe with a 16" barrel.
MrPostman
10.1 grains of n105, 38 super brass, 124 grain Xtreme FP, 1.245 OAL and CCI spp should get you 170 pf out of a 5 inch no popple hole barrel Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Tapatalk
93notch
So I got the powder number from my dad. It's 3n38 8.0 gr 1.245 length? 1508 on the chronograph.

That doesn't sound right either, are you sure about the powder? Maybe it's 3n37? 3n38 under a 124 should take 9+gr to make major and n105 would be about a grain more, but don't take my word for it, check out the published load data from the manufacturer: http://www.vihtavuori.com/en/reloading-data/handgun-reloading/handgun-reloading-data.html Vihtavuori powders are great for Open as they have published load data for major loads in 9mm and 38 super. GrumpyOne
With a 125 at 1508fps, that's a power factor of 188...major is 165 and above...drop that powder charge down and work it back up. Edit to add: Even if it isn't 3n38, you need to drop that powder charge down.
BeerBaron
something is seriously off. I run 9.2gn of 3N38 behind a 124gn CMJ and that makes 1360FPS average for ~168PF and that is through a brand new KKM 355 barrel with 3 barrel holes and a 4 chamber comp. the KKM barrel is faster than my Schumann barrel. OAL is 1.235. Most need between 9.2gn and 10.4gn of 3N38 depending on barrel length, bullet weight and type (lead, copper etc) to make somewhere around 170PF. 8gn is no where near enough if it's really 3N38. I could see 8gn of Win Autocomp going 1500fps though... First of all check is it really doing 1500fps? that/s way faster than needed and is no doubt why the gun is not very nice to shoot. ano
9 grains of n105 will not yield that powerfactor or speed unless something else is WAY off, in either case its bad.
bigboy69
For major I use 10.3 grains of AA7 under a 125 grain blue bullet. I have 2 3/16" popple holes also. I run a 10lb recoil spring. It's between 173 and 174 PF.
