BCGlocker
I am new to 3-gun competition and am considering adding the Primary Arms 1-8x to my AR. I like to know if the Primary Arms 1-8X with 24mm objective and 30mmm tube is suitable for 3-gun competition? Is there any other scope with similar pricing that I should consider? Hi-Power Jack
If you go back and read the archives, you'll find that there are a lot of fans of the PA 1-8x. Lots of discussion, though, that a higher quality 1-4x might well be a better choice for 3-gun (clarity, brightness, etc) Depends on the price point, and the distance you'll be shooting. TonytheTiger
The 24mm measurement is the objective diameter, the actual tube O.D. is 30mm. I think HPJ is referencing the Platinum series PA 1-8x but they also make a lower end (sub $400) 1-8x. If that's the one your talking about I would steer clear of it. Anytime I've seen a feature packed or high magnification range scope for a low price it means they sacrificed glass quality to keep the price low. The optics in a $400 1-4x will always be superior to the optics in a $400 1-8x.
