jacketjoed
Bought a 2011 style open gun last year, the finish was messed up on the comp. Looking to having the whole gun coated (not in love with the hard chrome.) These things being as tight and finicky as they are, I want to make sure it gets done right, my gun runs and would like to keep it that way. Any suggestions on who to send it off to to be coated??? Thanks!
grantwoodok
Ionbond can be done on top of hardchrome. That would be my suggestion.

jacketjoed
Was looking at the nitride, are there any reputable companies out there that specialize in coating 2011s?
jnr88
Not many of the custom builders seem to feature black nitride. You might call a few.
mscott
I sent some parts to H&M to be nitrided a couple weeks ago, but haven't gotten them back yet. I've seen several good references on them, though.

They say 3-5 days on their site so that is interesting, hopefully yours will be back soon

Thanks! Did you talk to H&M about doing your gun? I know they told me I'd have to send it off to someone to have the hard chrome stripped off first before they could do the black nitride. 2011BLDR
Robar... I prefer NP3/ NP3 Plus but the have Roguard and Poly- T2 also. I have guns done in the mid 1990's with lots of rounds down range.
LoganbillJ
You must have the hard chrome stripped to have the Nitride done. I have re-done a customers Edge this way. Have sent many parts as well as complete guns to H&M. Turn around is typically 2 weeks.
mscott
H&M got my parts on Nov. 28 and they will be on the way back Monday morning. Will be my own Christmas present to me. That's a 3 week turn around, so I'd say that is doing pretty good.

Only thing that isn't is the springs, slide racker, and aluminum mainspring housing and trigger.
js1130146
Ah, must just be lighting on the hammer then. It looked uncoated to me.

jacketjoed
that doesnt seem to bad at all, did you have to have the hard chrome removed?
Garmil
I sanded everything down before I sent it. I'm not sure what prep they do.
grantwoodok
If you have hardchrome you need to have it stripped first. I opted for Black DLC as this step was not needed.
mikev49
Be careful sending guns to robar. If you have a trigger less than 2.5 lbs they will not send your gun back. Happened to a local shooter near us. Sent them a gun and they told him it was unsafe. They required that he have a trigger job done to the gun and when it came back the trigger was terrible. He cussed them up and down until they agreed to pay to have a real gunsmith fix it.

Are you required to send an assembled gun to Robar (a finisher)? Why?
