Tapping holes for mount in older Frame

hey Guys,

 

been idle for a while, just did not have any stuff to share. 

 

Well now I bought an older Limited Custom for IPSC Standard (Large Frame) in 40 cal and 9*19 second slide. Got a great deal for 450 euros and included a speed holster, a rig and 9 magazines in both 40cal and 9MM. 

Now I already have a Small frame Limited Custom in 9*19 wich has mounting holes. I also got a second hand thumbrest from DAA wich i would like to mount on it so my 2 gus are alike. 

Maybe the resident Tanfo doctors can tell if it is possible to drill and tap 2/3 holes for the thumbrest in the leftside of the frame? 

Which M-diameter is used and what drill can be used? I know I need to buy a 3-step (pre-middle-finish) for the threading.

Yes, the holes are M4x0.7, but be aware the frame may be very hard.

I'm not much of a metallurgist, but I've read about spot annealing to soften the metal before drilling/tapping.

I used a 'center drill'  to get the hole started in a precise location, then the drilling went pretty easy.  Took my time with the tapping as it was hard, I only used one tapping bit.
