Question on Scope Rings for Ruger Precision Rifle

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 Creedmore.  The scope I plan to put on the rifle is the Vortex Viper HS-T 6-24x50 30mm.  Since the rifle comes with a 20 MOA Picatinny rail which scope rings or mount should I get.  I notice that some on the rings state low, medium, and high.  I will be shooting out to a range of 600 yards.  Thank you.

You will probably need high or extra high for the RPR. For that scope I would get Seekins or vortex rings. Midway lists the actual height from the rail to the bottom of the scope, so if you know the dimensions of the scope you can figure how tall you need the rings to be.

This is an excellent resource to calculate ring height - http://www.mil-rad.com/scope_ring_calculator

FWIW, don't try and get a mm of clearance as the inherent flex in the optics/mount/firearm can cause the optics to touch on firing.

As a point of reference, I used the above to calculate that I needed the Seekins High 34mm rings for my RPR 6.5. Clearance was perfect.

Thank you folks.  It looks like I will be going with the High Mounts.
