40 cal and 200gr bullets

Recommended Posts

Has anybody got any info on a 200 gr bullet for 40 caliber reloads. What are the ups & downs? I have only loaded 165gr for my 40 and have the option to get some 200gr on the cheap.

I found 200 grain SNS to be the ideal bullet for me. I loaded 1.175LOA and 4.1 grains of WST. Very soft and accurate. JMO.

200gr is pretty good, but not good enough to justify the cost. 180s are just fine.

Really not much cost difference. If you shoot better with 200s have one less beer a week.

I like the feel of 180 gr over 200 gr. If you can get 50 or so of the 200 gr for testing, see how they feel to you. You may or may not like them.

I have been using 200 gr Cast with N320 loaded long and like them a lot. I am not saying there is a huge difference in the same with 180 though. Opinion seems to go back and forth on that one.

VV320, Zero 180 or 200.

Use a little less powder with the 200.

Very very soft shooting especially around 165-166 PF-the comment was from the Chrono guy at A2.

5 in SV with a Tungsten guide rod

Accuracy is not an issue.

I did not notice a real cost difference. I pretty much just order 200.

But I do not experiment much, I find something that works and stick with it. I only switch based on a recommendation from a National Champion.

I shoot coated SNS 200 RN's in my STI Edge and absolutely love them!

What powder do you like with the 200 RN? I just picked up my first batch of them to try.

I love Solo1000 but it's been impossible to find. My major match load is 4.1gr Vihta Vuori N320 @ 1.185" OAL shooting a STI Edge.

I have also used Autocomp and Ramshot Competition with good results.

I used AutoComp, WST, and HP38 for 200gr 40cal reloads when I was testing the different bullet weights for 40cal. I prefer the 165gr bullets but the 200gr was super soft to shoot.

I got a quick and easy lead on an 8 lb'er of WST. So I'm going to give that a try.

And I'm switching to limited from production, so the gun is jumping around a little more than I'm used to. So my thought was to try and get things as soft as possible for a smoother transition. Once I've been behind the gun for a while, I'll start playing around with some "better" performing loads.

200 gr SNS RN did the trick! Thanks, Ryan!

JCC, JNR, You guys were right on the money with 4.1 gr WST. Right at 170 PF out of an STI DVC.
