SERVED_USMC
I've only had this happen with federal shells. I've maybe had 5 out of 1000 rounds, but the most recent was last weekend. Gun fed the federal low recoil slug, pulled trigger, hammer fell, no boom. I ejected the shell and carried on with the stage. The primer had a mark from the firing pin but looked like a light strike. Put it back in the gin today and fired first time. Am I die for some springs? Gun was clean a lightly oiled. I'm lost. Anyone have any tips? Dan Sierpina
Only with Federal? Your description sounds more like a high primer. If it happens with all brands, then I'd look at the gun. Were any of the Federal low cost shells?
SERVED_USMC
I believe so. I stopped using federal target loads because of it, but continued using the slugs. This was the first slug that had done that.
GunCat
Take the barrel off the gun and drop a random sample of your slugs shells into the chamber and see if they go in and seat easily. If any require pressure to seat into the chamber check the shell for an out of round base/rim, sliver plastic hanging in front of the metal (I've seen that on the Federal target loads). Also check for a sharp edge on the barrel's extractor cut which could hang the shell going in (but this would happen on any shell, especially if the shell has a bulged crimp). It is possible the low recoil slugs are not creating enough recoil to fully cycle your gun in some situation (and the gun did not return fully into battery) Edited April 17, 2016 by GunCat
